Guest Lecture Session by Prof Mohammed Umair

 

DSBA once more opened its arms to another distinguished personality - Prof Mohammed Umair who gave a talk on “Dynamics of Cross culture and its Implications on International Business & Wealth Management” to the VI Semester BCom & BBM students on 19th Jan 2017 in the ground floor seminar hall between 1:30 and 4:30 pm.

                                              

The guest speaker, Mohammed Umair, is a faculty member in the Department of Commerce, Kristu Jayanti College, Bangalore. He teaches Finance and Taxation Courses for Undergraduate and Post graduate programmes. Prior to his academic career, he has worked for several MNCs, HSBC, ICICI, IBM, Cognizant and Honeywell to name a few, in different domains like recruitment, operations, training and finance. He has also won many accolades as an employee in ICICI and Cognizant which includes ‘Performer of the Year’ award received from ICICI. A certified life skill trainer, he holds a Green belt Holder in Six sigma quality management.

   

Prof Umair began the session by enlightening the students on “Dynamics of Cross culture and its Implications on International Business”. He spoke about the organisational culture and the practises followed in the global arena. He recounted the dynamics followed in various countries and cited examples of Korea, USA, Japan and China in this regard. He also explained the considerations in cross culture and quoted examples of brands, products etc. He further spoke on the importance of verbal and non verbal communication, the problems encountered in cross cultural communication, the international negotiation strategies & highlighted the skills required to be an effective international negotiator.

      

After a short break, he resumed the session and gave a talk on “Wealth Management”. To begin with, Prof Umair defined finance. He continued by stating the steps followed for investment, & how to get better returns on investment .He also stated the safety precautions to be adhered while investing. He also spoke at length on savings, liquidity and optimisation of wealth management.

Overall the guest lecture was widely appreciated by the final year students as they felt insightful and exuberant throughout the interactive session.
