Report on 'The Urban Reader' Club Activity -Essay Writing

On 27th August 2016 ‘The Urban Reader-DSBA Literary Club- and Babasaheb Dr B R Ambedkar Study & Research Centre jointly conducted an essay writing competition in the seminar hall on the ground floor between 1:50 pm and 4:30 pm.

Prof Harikrishna and Prof Prakasha helped in coordinating the event.

Objectives:

  • To provide students with an opportunity to express their ideas through essay writing.
  • To unable students to understand and appreciate current topics.
  • To inspire students to participate and compete in competitions.

 

The topic was given to the students one day prior to the event:

‘Save the Girl Child-a slogan made popular after Rio Olympics....

But Girl Child should be saved in the interest of humanity!!!!!

 

The competition was open to all students at DSBA.Students were given a choice of language i.e. they could write the essay topic in either English, Hindi or Kannada.The minimum word limit was 400 words.

              

 

46 students participated in the competition.

 

Learning Outcome:

  • Increased students’ awareness of the world around them.
  • Tested student’s accumulation and retention of knowledge in a real life situation.
  • Helped build self-esteem.
  • Provided an opportunity for students to work together.
