Dayananda Sagar Business Academy Centre for Management Development and Research [CDMR] and Centre for Responsible Management Education [CRME] conducted the Second   International Conference on “Responsible Management Education –Key to Holistic Development of Society” on 21st and 22nd of October2016 at Dr D Premachandra Sagar Auditorium & Centre for Performing Arts.

The two day conference in association with SLV Developers provided a platform for Academicians, Researchers and Corporate to come together and deliberate on creating responsible management education for holistic development of society.

The conference majorly discussed the following sub themes but not limited to Role of Academia and Governing Agencies, Role of Industry, Theory & Practise on Management, Curriculum and Pedagogy, Governance, Leadership and Policy Making, Ethics and Value System in Business and Management, CSR, Sustainability, Role of Technology, Society and Culture – Sanskar and lastly Role of Media.

There was a special event for the students’ too-Collage/Poster making on the conference theme. Both UG & PG students were given an opportunity to exhibit and present their collages/posters on the second day of the conference at the venue.

The emcees for both days of the conference were Mr Ashwin [I Sem MBA] & Mr Gaurav Mukherjee [V Sem BBA]

. The conference began at 10 am on 21st Oct’16 with an introductory video to DSI. Ms Shruti, a renowned Bharatnatyam exponent invoked Lord Ganesha with a dance recital. It was followed by an invocation song rendered by Ms. Keertanya and Ms. Pooja B N of 5th Semester BCom.

 All the eminent dignitaries gracing the occasion were florally welcomed on the dais and then the welcome address was given by Dr [Brig] Sandes, Principal DSBA & Conference Chair. In his address, he gave a background to the conference topic, laid emphasis on each one’s responsibility to the environment & society and spoke on the mega trends shaping the global economy. All the guests present on the dais were requested to light the lamp for an auspicious start to the conference. Dr. A.N.N Murthy, the Vice Chancellor of Dayananda Sagar University delivered the key note address. The Inaugural Address was given by Mr Harsha Gowda Siddaveere, Senior Vice President at Colt Technologies, Strategy and Service Transformation. London, United Kingdom. Dr. Sridhar G, an IIT graduate, Doctorate from John Hopkins University and Founder – Deeksha Integrated was the Guest of Honour and he addressed the gathering.

The Presidential Address was given by Shri Galiswamy, Secretary- Dayananda Sagar Institutions. Professor R.Janardhan, the ProVice Chancellor and Senior Vice President at Dayananda Sagar Institutions shared his inspiring thoughts. Shri Galiswamy honoured the dignitaries. Prof. Nikita Sreekantha, HOD-UG programs DSBA and Convener of the International Conference proposed the vote of thanks.

After tea/coffee break, the first plenary session began at 11:30 am. The student coordinators escorted the speakers on to the dais and they were florally welcomed. The Plenary session was scheduled for 90 minutes. Each dignitary presented their views for about 15 minutes. The Question & Answer session was thrown open to the audience at the end of the session. The eminent personalities who addressed the plenary session were Dr. Asha Benakappa, Director of the Indira Gandhi Institute of Child Health (IGICH), Major General G. Shankaranarayanan (Retd), Prof. Salma Akhter, Consultant of UNDP, World Bank & UN organisation at Bangladesh and Dr. Arathi VB, Founder – Vibhu Academy. The guests were honoured by Dr Sandes, Dr Veena and Prof Nikitha.

Post lunch, there was a panel discussion on “Ethics and value system in Business and Management”. The panel discussion was scheduled for 90 mins. The guests were welcomed with bouquets & honoured with mementoes by the Principal, Dean and HOD [UG].

The moderator was Dr. Mohandas Hegde Director, CREST – Bangalore.The panel members were Mr Hari Gandamaneni, Vice President - Goldman Sachs & Co; Prof. Salma Akhter, Consultant of UNDP, World Bank and other UN organizations; Mr.Dayananda Papegowda CIO –Lov Soy Food Industries; Mr Arjun Devaiah Theethamada Director - Abhimanyu Academy, Bangalore & Major General G Shankaranarayanan [Retd]. The panel members shared their ideas and opinions on the topic after which, the moderator presented his views on the thought provoking session.

Post tea/coffee break, at 3:30 pm the technical sessions began. On 21st Oct’16, the sessions were held in DSJBS block at DSI campus. The delegates presented their research papers on the theme & sub theme of the conference topic .Since the college received overwhelming responses from the researchers from all across the country, the technical sessions continued on the second day of the conference too i.e. 22nd Oct’16 in the Aeronautical block at DSI. The session chairs were Dr. Suma Rao, Dr. H Ramakrishna, Dr. M R Sripathi Rao, Gp Captain CHN Kumar, Major General G Shankar Narayanan, Dr.Nandini C, Dr.Latha Krishnan, Dr.Maruthi Ram, Dr. Sai Baba & Dr. H M Tejaswani. While the technical sessions were on, on Day Two, the registered participants for Collage /Poster making exhibited and gave verbal presentations on their posters/collages at the Aeronautical Block.  Prof. Salma Akhter, visiting dignitary from Bangladesh kindly accepted to judge the event. At the end of the technical sessions, the results were compiled.

To take the conference theme “Responsible Management Education - Key to Holistic Development of Society” forward, Second Plenary Session was arranged on 22ndOctober’16. The Plenary session was again scheduled for 90 minutes. Each dignitary presented their views for about 20 minutes. The Question & Answer session followed.

The distinguished speakers were welcomed with bouquets and honoured with souvenirs .Ms. Sandhya Vasudevan, Deutsche Bank group Chief Operating Officer & MD; Mr. Sunil Shah – Deputy CEO and head- ITEC for Societe General Global Solution Center, India; Dr. Mohandas Hegde – Director, CREST – Bangalore. The receptive audience had several queries which were deftly handled by the speakers.

SLV Developers [major sponsorer of the conference] had a lucky dip for all present at the conference. The names of the winners were announced at the end of the conference. The three lucky winners were faculties of DSBA themselves. Prof Usha won a sum of ten thousand rupees, Prof Nagaraja, a sum of rupees seven thousand and Prof Chaitanya won a sum of rupees five thousand.Mr H Nagaraja, the owner of SLV Developers and Ms Bhagya Nagaraja were honoured by Dr Sandes, Principal DSBA.

Dr. Veena K N, Dean- DSBA and Conference Co-chair gave a brief report of the Two-day Conference proceedings.

 

Prof Pravesh Soti announced the results of the technical sessions. The cash prizes were given away by Mr & Ms Nagaraja.

For the Research Scholar track, Dr. Tejal Jani & Ms Himani Sardar won the first prize of Rupees Three Thousand. Their paper was titled “Undergraduate Management Education: A Departure from Conventional Management Education”. There was a tie for the second place- Keren Khambhata for her paper titled “Sharing Economy: Can We Achieve Sustainable Development through Technological Advancements and Create a Whole New Platform for Business? Is Sharing Economy Here to Stay?” & Mr Vikas N. Prabhu for his paper titled “How can Indian Cultural Values Foster and Bolster Indian Corporate Management”. Both won the prize money of Rupees Five Hundred each.

In the student track, there was a tie again between Ms Pushpa B, Ms Arpitha Srinivas & Ms Rachitha K for their paper “The Risk and Return: BSE Stocks in India” and Ms Gopika Sandes for her paper titled “Knowing, Doing and Being – The ‘Must’, Learning Outcome for Management Education”. The prize money was Rupees One Thousand each. The second prize winners were Ms Pratibha, Rani Gupta and Pratisha Swain for “Role of Industry and Society in promoting Responsible Management Education.”

In the collage/Poster Making Competition for the theme, Responsible Management Education Bhavana B N & Spurthi H S’s team won the first prize of Rupees Five Hundred and Second prize of Rupees Two Hundred and Fifty was won by Bornita Roy & Gayathri Katikam’s team.

Certificates were distributed to all the faculties and student coordinators for successfully coordinating the Second International Conference.

Prof Nikitha Sreekantha, HOD [UG] & Organizing Committee Chair Person proposed the Vote of Thanks. With that, the curtains fell on the Second International Conference.
