An Industrial visit to the Coke Factory

Industrial visits are very important to any student undergoing professional education. The industrial visits are an effort to bridge the gap of practical exposure. The equipment, machinery, operational methodology and everything else that the students will come across once they enter the professional world after completion of their courses are showcased to them on such visits.

On the 13th Jan’16, students of II Semester BCom went for an industrial visit to Coca-Cola plant at Bidadi, Mysore Road, Bangalore. Prof Lakshmikantha accompanied the students.

The students left the college premises at 10am. Soon after reaching the plant the group was taken to the training hall. They were given a sample each of the drinks made at the plant. The students were given an introduction about the automated plant and the production lines. They were shown a video on the safety precautions they need to follow when they are moving around the plant. The beverages that the plant produces are Thumbs Up, Maaza, Sprite, Fanta, Coke and Kinley. There are separate production lines for water and beverages. Every activity happening in the plant like washing of bottles, filling, capping, labelling and packaging was explained in detail. They were also informed about the seven processes -water filter, water treatment plant, procurement of raw materials, processing of Coca-Cola products, quality checking, shipment and the scrap yard.

All the students’ queries regarding the marketing and manufacturing process were cleared by the executive. Students were amazed at the speed at which the process occurred and how the automated systems could work according to the requirements. Students returned to the college at 1 pm.

The industrial visit to Coca-Cola unit was an enriching experience for students as they got a first-hand experience regarding the functioning of the industry and they got a clarity about the various management concepts that saw practically being put into action.
