Inauguration of the Ambedkar Learning and Research Center

It was a moment of happiness for all at DSBA when ‘Babasaheb Dr B.R. Ambedkar Study & Research Centre ‘was inaugurated on 6th Jan 2016 at 11 am at the campus. The inauguration took place at the Seminar Hall.Prof. Prakasha and Prof. Hari Krishna co-ordinated the event.

The Chief Guest for the event was Dr Siddalingaiah, Director -Dr Ambedkar Learning and Research Centre’, Bangalore University. The Guest of Honour was Dr M.V.Usha Devi-Prof and HOD, History Department, Bangalore University.

Prof Prakasha welcomed the gathering .A song was sung by Ms Saranya and Ms Vinutha, II Semester BCom students.Prof Nikitha Sreekantha, HOD-UG department greeted the guests and enlightened the audience of their credentials. Dr (Brig) Sandes Principal, DSBA and Dr Veena K N Dean, DSBA were also welcomed .The invitees were florally welcomed by Dr Veena and Prof Prakasha. The tradition of lighting the lamps was followed by the guests.

Dr Siddalingaiah and Dr M.V.Usha Devi gifted books about Dr Ambedkar and also books written by him to the college. They also handed over a photograph of Dr Ambedkar to the Principal Dr Sandes.

Dr Siddalingaiah spoke of his fond memories for the Founder -Late Sri R. Dayananda Sagar and his association with Dr D Hemachandra Sagar Chairman, DSI and Dr D Premachandra Sagar Vice-Chairman & CEO, DSI.He spoke at length about Dr Ambedkar- a great human of the 20th century, a scholar, jurist, a revolutionist, his journey and his contribution in the field of education He also mentioned that Bangalore University desired to have an Ambedkar Learning and Research Centre in every college affiliated to it.

After the Chief Guest’s inspiring speech Brenda and Pooja B N, II year students sang a Kannada song.

Dr Usha Devi also spoke in detail about Dr Ambedkar. She highlighted unknown facets about his early life and education, as a political leader, a Buddhist activist, philosopher, historian, orator, scholar and editor. She enumerated the books written by him and she expressed a desire that the youth imbibe his teachings ,study the Constitution of India, maintain individualism, believe in humanitarian religion ,have a right spirit and attitude ,gain knowledge from the west but make a contribution to the Indian society and have a motto of selfless service. Her talk ended with an interaction with the first year students.

Dr Sandes spoke about Dr Ambedkar as an economist and shared his thoughts and voiced his happiness at the Inauguration of the Ambedkar Centre at DSBA College and also assured the guests that programmes/activities propagating the ideas and ideals of Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar will be conducted for the students at the centre.

Dr Siddalingaiah and Dr Usha Devi were given a token of appreciation by the Principal and Dean.

Dr Veena KN proposed the vote of thanks wherein she thanked the guests and reassured them that DSBA will follow Dr Ambedkar’s footsteps in every which way. The books contributed by them would occupy a place of pride at the library and the students will be encouraged to borrow them and be encouraged to incorporate the ideals and thoughts of Dr Ambedkar. She thanked the Principal, Prof Prakasha and Prof Harikrishna, faculty, the office and the housekeeping staff and the students for the efforts taken for the inauguration.

The programme came to an end with a cup of tea and snacks.
