An Industrial visit to the Coke Factory-A Report

After my training wheels, my first real bike was a Schwinn, and my first time out, I rode down a hill, didn’t know how to stop, and ran right into a tree. So, that was a nice experience ... like realizing, oh, there are brakes! -Robin Williams

Industrial visit is very important to any student undergoing management courses .No institute providing these courses have infrastructure to show all working equipment, machinery, operational methodology that the students will come across when they enter professional field after completion of their respective courses, and hence industrial visits bridge this gap of practical exposure.

On the 10th Feb’16, students of VI Semester BBM and I Semester BCA went for an industrial visit to Hindustan Coca Cola Beverages Pvt Ltd located at Bidadi Industrial Area. Prof Arun Kumar Shetty accompanied the students. The students left the college premises at 10am. Soon after reaching the plant the group was taken to the training hall. They were given a sample each of the drinks made at the plant.

The students were given an introduction about the automated plant and the production lines. They were shown a video on the safety precautions they need to follow when they are moving around the plant. The beverages that the plant produces are Thumbs Up, Maaza, Sprite, Fanta, Coke and Kinley. There are separate production lines for water and beverages. Every activity happening in the plant like washing of bottles, filling, capping, labelling and packaging was explained in detail. They were also informed about the seven processes -water filter, water treatment plant, procurement of raw materials, processing of Coca-Cola products, quality checking, shipment and the scrap yard.

All the students’ queries regarding the marketing and manufacturing process were cleared by the executive. Students were amazed at the speed at which the process occurred and how the automated systems could work according to the requirements. Students returned to the college at 1 pm. The visit helped the students gain first-hand information regarding functioning of the industry, understood the do’s and don’ts of industrial practise and helped them see their future place in the working world. Overall, the visit ensured a thrilling experience.
