An Industrial visit to the Coke Factory

Industrial visits are a vital part of the curriculum and provide students an opportunity to learn practically through interaction as opposed to theoretical knowledge given in colleges. By visiting companies, students become aware of the working methods, industrial practises, and new technologies and get an insight into the real working environment of the industry.

On the 14th Jan’16, students of VI Semester BCom went for an industrial visit to Hindustan Coca Cola Beverages Pvt Ltd located at Bidadi Industrial Area. Prof Srilalitha accompanied the students.

The students left the college premises at 10am. Soon after reaching the plant the group was taken to the training hall. They were given a sample each of the drinks made at the plant. The students were given an introduction about the automated plant and the production lines. They were shown a video on the safety precautions they need to follow when they are moving around the plant. The beverages that the plant produces are Thumbs Up, Maaza, Sprite, Fanta, Coke and Kinley. There are separate production lines for water and beverages. Every activity happening in the plant like washing of bottles, filling, capping, labelling and packaging was explained in detail. They were also informed about the seven processes -water filter, water treatment plant, procurement of raw materials, processing of Coca-Cola products, quality checking, shipment and the scrap yard.

All the students’ queries regarding the marketing and manufacturing process were cleared by the executive. Students were amazed at the speed at which the process occurred and how the automated systems could work according to the requirements. Students returned to the college at 1 pm.

The industrial visit to Coca-Cola unit was an elevating experience for students as they gained first hand information regarding functioning of the industry. In addition, the programme enabled the students to apply their classroom learning to a real-life situation while being mentored by the industry experts.
