The Literary Club ‘The Urban Reader’ and the IT Club ‘Sadhana’ set the ball rolling at DSBA by conducting one of a kind activity- an outdoor one!

The club coordinators –Prof Meera Krishnan & Prof Chaitanya decided on taking the club members for a one day trip to Melkote, a temple town situated 133 kms from Bangalore. The itinerary was planned by Prof Prakasha and Prof Hari Krishna. Prof Srilalitha and Prof Kshithi also joined in.

As a part of the IT club activity, BCA students were expected to capture the moments experienced at Melkote and make a short film /video and present it in the week to follow!.

On 11th morning at 6:30 am, 45 students [from VI Sem BBM & BCom, II Sem & IV Sem BCA] with six faculties set out to Melkote. A brief breakfast stop was made at Hotel Guru on Bangalore-Mysore Road .With the hunger satiated, the next stop was only at Cheluvanarayana Swamy temple at Melukote. Enroute one could savour the smell & see fresh sugarcane fields.

The Cheluvanarayana Swamy temple is a famous temple that has both religious & architectural significance. After seeking God’s blessings, all devoured the amazing ‘puliyogre’.

After that, one strolled around the picturesque place and saw Sanskrit Academy, Akka Thangi Kola and the famous Raya Gopura. Then one trudged up the steep steps to see the Yoganarismha temple atop a hill. The temple is very old and beautifully carved. At the foot   of the temple is a tank named Kalyani which is huge and beautiful too.

It was 2:30 pm and time to head back. The second place that was planned for the students was a Folk art Village, located in Ramanagara on Bangalore-Mysore highway called Janapada Loka.To the surprise of all, annual folk festival was on and students could witness folk dances of Karnataka. The students were totally taken in by the sylvan folk environment, impressive entrance, museum & Doddamane. This place gave the students abundance of knowledge of the culture and the old generations. The centre offered a holistic experience and was perfect to end the day’s outing.

Back in the college at 7 pm, the students were exhausted, ecstatic and over the moon.
