Fresher's Day'17

First year BCom, BBA and BCA students were gearing up for a new phase in their life in the month of July. Freshers' Day, an annual event at DSBA is a kind of formal welcome for the newcomers by seniors and faculty members. It also helps to develop a bonding between the new students and the college.

It was held on 12 August’17 in the DSBA foyer at 11:30 am. Prof Crissy Mathew; Faculty In charge, Cultural Club coordinated the event with student coordinators from the second and the third year BCom, BBA & BCA.Prof Priyanka, Prof Meera Krishnan and Prof Hari krishna helped in coordinating  the sumptuous snacks which was served at the end of the event. The freshers' were given a colour code of black & white.

Md Yaseer [III Year BBA] & Md Sajeel [II Year BCom] the emcees for the day welcomed Dr [Brig] Sandes; Principal, DSBA, Dr Veena; Dean, DSBA, Prof Nikitha; HOD, faculty members & the new students .The programme commenced with a Bharatnatyam recital by Ms Navya [I year BCom] followed by an entertaining dance by Surya [III Year BCom] and a beautiful rendition of a medley by the Freshers’ themselves -Anushree, Meghana, Prajwal & Rakshan.

The judges for Mr&Ms Fresher contest were introduced to the audience. Prof Meera Seshanna, Prof Meera Krishnan, Prof Surekha V Nayak & Prof Lakshmikanth-the judges were requested to occupy their seats for judging the contest. The stage was set for fresher's to showcase their talent and compete for the Mr & Ms Fresher's Title.20 Freshers of 2017 batch walked on the ramp and introduced themselves to the audience and the judges. The judges now had a task of eliminating four contestants. Meanwhile, Ms Swathi from II year BBA performed a solo dance and mesmerised each one with her moves. Girls from III Year BCom- Vinutha, Anusha, Ashwini & Chethana sang a melodious song. A foot tapping dance by Dhanusha [III year BCom] and Chaithra [II Year BBA] made the boys in the front row to join in and the enthralled audience kept clapping to the rhythmic beats of the song. Md Yaseer called out the names of the contestants who made it to the second round of the contest. This was a prop round wherein the contestants were given a prop. They were required to use the prop as innovatively as they could. Based on their spontaneity and entertainment, the judges chose ten worthy contestants for the final round. Six contestants were eliminated at this level.

Chaithra, Vedashree, Harshitha, Sruthi and Maitreyee from II Year BBA performed a rocking group dance. This was followed by newbies showing off their innate talents -Beat boxing by Rakshan, a rap song by Karthik, a solo dance by Darshan R and a group song led by Jaspreet. In the final round, the judges asked questions to the ten finalists. One had to have stage presence, be concise & confident to nail the questions and stun the judges and the audience. Md Sajeel announced the final ten contestants.

Certificates of Time Management activity and Collage activity conducted during the Bridge Programme were handed out to the winners from the first year by the Principal, while Prof Nikitha called out the names. In the meantime, the judges selected the winners for the title.

Dr Sandes announced the winners of Mr & Ms Fresher contest .Mr Prajwal K R from I year BBA and Ms Sanjana from I year BCom won the titles of Mr Fresher and Ms Fresher respectively. Both walked on the ramp together after having received the sash and gift.

The Fresher’s Day was a day that was filled with excitement, joy, music, enthusiasm, laughter and happiness, a day that the freshers' would cherish lifelong.
