Workshop on GST for Final Year Students

AWorkshop’ on GST [Goods and Services Tax] was conducted by Mr. Kiran Kumar, Director NICT Computer Education on 23rd of August 2017 on the ground floor seminar hall, DSBA.

The session began at 10 am. Final year BCom and BBA students and some faculty participated in the interactive workshop. The session was conducted to familiarize and enlighten the students about the benefits of the new taxation system and how it would benefit the consumers and the nation. The term GST was explained in layman’s terms to all. Mr. Kumar quickly cleared the misconceptions that some of the students had before he proceeded with the session. He elaborated on the GST rates, its determination, and the time period that took for the government to implement it across the nation.  

This was followed by a short break of 10 to 15 minutes and the session continued with Input Tax Credit under GST & GST- Impact and Effect on the prices of goods and services. Mr. Kumar also explained the three components of GST in detail i.e. CGST, IGST and SGST and called a lunch break. The afternoon session began with a detail account of how to file GST returns, how to login and how to operate on the GST portal.

The talk ended with students giving a feedback about the session. Overall, the students felt that the session was helpful in understanding the concept of GST.
