NSS 'School Adoption' Service

Volunteers of National Service Scheme must understand the community in which they work & develop among themselves a sense of social and civic responsibility. So, NSS wing of DSBA on 18th August ’17 went to the Kagglahalli Government School [in the vicinity of DSBA campus] to inaugurate the NSS teaching activities at the school.

Prof Kasthuri Gopal, NSS Program Officer and Prof Nikita Sreekantha, HOD [DSBA] accompanied 23 students from the first, second and third year UG Programs to the venue. The contingent from DSBA reached the school at 1:30 pm and was warmly welcomed by the Head mistress- Ms.Manjula, teachers and 114 children. After the introduction, the purpose of the visit was discussed. Prof Kasthuri Gopal intimated to the Headmistress that a minimum of 15 teaching sessions will be conducted by the NSS Volunteers for duration of three hours each on every Friday at the school. Taking Ms Manjula’s suggestions into consideration; a syllabus was prepared for subjects like English Math, Hindi, and General Science. A short induction programme was conducted for the students’ .To make the first interaction memorable, fun activities were planned post induction session. School students were divided into groups immediately and the NSS Volunteers took over. The collection of fun games ensured active participation and enjoyment for all. Sweets were distributed at the end to the winners and to all the participants.

Within a short span of three hours, Kagglahalli school students bonded well with DSBA students. This being an ongoing process and with a promise of another energetic group of volunteers visiting them a week later, with more learning and lots of interesting activities lined up, at 4:15 pm NSS volunteers bid goodbye to the kids’.
