Global Captivation Programme at Dubai

Second year global students of DSBA stepped out to explore what lay beyond the familiar, to learn holistically and develop a well-rounded perspective during the Global Captivation Programme from 13th to 18th October 2017 at Dubai.

It is with this aim, the college takes its students for educational study tours every year to provide them an immersive experience which is unmatched, in terms of global exposure, lateral thinking and out-of-the-classroom experience. Global Captivation Programme is an ideal blend of lectures at the University, Industrial Visit and sightseeing. 

In the morning of 13th October’17, students reported at the Bengaluru Kempegowda Airport .Prof Chaitanya and Prof Lakshmikantha accompanied the students to Dubai.

At Dubai, the DSBA contingent and housed them in Hotel Fortune Karama, located in Bur Dubai. In the evening, they were taken on Dhow Creek Cruise. Cruising down Dubai creek was a novel experience, dinner on a Dhow Cruise with the fascinating lights of Dubai creek with music and Tanura Dance show with a BBQ buffet dinner was an enthralling experience.

 After breakfast on 14th October’17, students were taken on a guided tour to the iconic places in Dubai which included Dubai Creek, Jumeriah Mosque, Jumeriah Beach, Burj Al Arab, Madinat Jumeriah, Palm Jumeriah Island, Atlantis Hotel, Dubai Marina, Mall of Emirates, Dubai Mall & Kings Palace.

 At about 3:30 pm, all were ready for the Desert Safari. They were driven through the desert along Al Awir Road and taken to a point where they indulged in Dune Bashing. After that the students were packed in 4x4 Land Cruisers for an exciting dune drive with several photo-stops and reached the first destination, a camel farm. The drive continued across the desert. Then they stopped to watch the magical sunset before reaching the campsite where they worked up an appetite to enjoy a delicious barbecue dinner and shisha (the famous Arabic water pipe). Before returning to Dubai they also watched the famous belly dance among other performances by starlight.  

On 15th October’17 the much awaited tour to Abu Dhabi took place. Students saw the mesmerising Shaikh Zayed Grand Mosque and concluded the day at Ferrari World. A ride in the world’s fastest roller coaster Formula Rossa was not to be missed.

 On 16th October after breakfast the group checked out of the hotel and were dropped at Amity University. Students were awestruck looking at the huge campus and awesome infrastructure. They were welcomed at the university and allotted their rooms. At 9:30 am they were addressed by Dr Ramachandran, Pro VC, Amity University. The first session was on “Block Chain and Cryto Currency Applications” and the speaker was Mr Vaibhav Chauhan, Manager, PWC, ME. The second session was on “Leveraging Co Creation Approach & Cross –Industry Innovations for New Business Models” by Mr Pedro Pereira, Digital and Innovation Leader at SAP EMEA South. After a lunch break there was a third session on “International HR and Cross Cultural Issues” by Mr.Antonois EI Achkar, HR Director IQPC Middle East. The last session of the day was on “Legal Issues in Global Business” by Anjuli Sivaramkrishnan Kochhar and Co Inc.

In the evening the group went to Dubai Mall for a retail therapy!

On 17th October the sessions continued. The fifth session began at 10 am -“Environmental and sustainability Issues in Global Business” The speaker was Ms Manisha Maheswari, Head-Environment Sustainability, PepsiCo International. The sixth session was on “Defining Leadership Challenges through Global Dexterity” by Ms Neeru Maurya Sharma, Executive coach, Women Leadership Development Expert .The seventh session was on “Trends In International Marketing and the speaker was Mr. Akash Gandhi Business Head, UAE at Talking Pictures and the last session was on “ERP in the university” by Mr Ajaya, VP IT, Amity University Dubai.  

On 18th October after breakfast the students went on an Industrial visit to Jebel Ali Power Plant to understand the functioning of the unit and learn in practical environment, besides it also gave them an exposure to international business scenario.

In the evening, the group went for a thrilling visit to the living wonder-the Burj Khalifa, megatall skyscraper in Dubai & the fountain.
