Dance with Me A Workshop for Girls

                                   ‘Dance with Me’-Workshop for Girls

Dance is an incredible way to keep one’s mind sharp and body healthy.

Dance brings together body and mind like a wholesome exercise with numerous health benefits like strength, agility, coordination, flexibility and stamina.

Students dancing together can develop life-long friendships and social skills.

It is the physical expression through movement and rhythm of relationships, feelings and ideas. It's never too late to enjoy the benefits of dance.

Dancing is fun. It's an expression of joy!

Hence, a dance workshop &lsquo. Why Walk When You Can Dance’ was conducted for the girls from 20th Feb’17 to 22nd Feb’17 in two batches -one batch attended the session in the morning and the other attended the session in the noon.

The dance instructors were from the college itself-Second Semester BBA students-Ms Swathi Ramesh and Ms Chaithra Mendan.

Ms Swathi is a professional dancer and is versatile in various dance forms. She choreographs for various school and college events. She won the National level Hip-hop Dance Championship in 2015.

Ms Chaithra is also a professional dancer and she taught Zumba to the girls.

Before a work out session, it’s important to take some time to give one’s body a proper warm up. Warming up is a series of activities that gradually increase the heart rate and blood flow to muscles.

Two primary reasons for warming up are: to reduce the risk of injury and gradually prepare the body for the activity to come. Ms Swathi and Ms Chaithra taught the students stretching too, to improve overall flexibility.

After the dance session, they finished it off with a cool down to get their body back into gear.

Since many of the girls seemed inhibited and were dancing for the first time, Ms Swathi decided on freestyle dance form.

Freestyle is spontaneous and individual. There are no required or structured movements that must be learned. Freestyle dancing allows for individual expression and dancers are encouraged to create new moves and develop a personal style. It is funky, modern and fun. Ms Swathi taught the girls to dance on wide variety of music trends and mixed & matched the steps, personalized it and added her styling to it.

No matter what one’s fitness goals are, Zumba is a great way to change up one’s daily workout and to get a well-rounded workout in an hour! Ms Chaithra taught the girls to do Zumba. It was an eclectic mix of dance and aerobics. This workout was exciting, exhilarating, easy to follow and quite addicting!

The benefits of Zumba are endless.

Both the instructors were wonderful, dedicated, passionate, patient but most importantly understanding to the needs of their peers and seniors. Hence, all the girls thoroughly enjoyed themselves during the dance workshop.
