Industrial Visit to KSDL, Bangalore

An industrial visit to Karnataka Soap and Detergent limited [KSDL] was organized by DSBA on 27th February 2018 for 6th semester BCom students.Prof Srilalitha, VI Sem Class Co-coordinator accompanied them.

KSDL, a government owned enterprise was established in 1916 and is located in Bangalore, Karnataka. It is the only unit in Asia which is registered under the government of India to manufacture over 26,000 tons of sandalwood soaps every year with authentic sandalwood oil extracted from the sandalwood plantations in Southern India. The company produces Mysore Sandal Soaps, Personal care items, Perfumes, Cosmetics and Detergents.

The students left the campus at 1:30 pm and reached the venue at 2:30 pm. They were welcomed by Mr.Balakrishna PRO and Head- R&D. They were taken to the seminar hall in the factory premises and were given an insight into the manufacturing unit and the product that is produced. Students saw the various sandalwood products produced in the factory and the methods used.

Mr. Balakrishna briefed them about the facts of sandalwood, and spoke at length about the factory and their employees. KSDL employees have always been provided with above average salary and have housing and health care facilities. The enthusiastic students were then taken around the factory and shown how sandalwood soaps are manufactured. They even got to see the production of Mysore Sandal premium soap, which is the costliest soap in India!

It was a great learning experience for the students’ .Thus the industrial visit to KSDL came to an end and the students reached the college at 4:30 pm.
