Session on Quality Management in Educational Institutions

The Internal Quality Audit Cell [IQAC] conducted a session steered by Mr Vikas Verma on Quality Management in Educational Institutions on 6th September’18 in the Principal’s Chamber at 3:30 pm.

Mr Vikas Verma is the Founder/CEO of Hitankar Solutions. Hitankar Solutions is a Corporate Training and Management Consultant Firm in India specializing in Corporate Training and Consultancy Services through a pool of Management Consultants and Trainers having extensive experience from various industry segments in their respective core competency areas like Quality management, Marketing, Finance, Information Technology, International business and Organisation behaviour etc. They have been helping organisations improve business/quality management systems through training, coaching, process improvement and implementation project support. Their services range from Quality Management services to Human Resource Management viz ISO 9001, ISO 14001, Food Safety Management System, OHSAS 18001, SA 8000, NAAC, CE Marking etc. and Training Programmes like Self Development, Communication Skills, Leadership Skills, Time Management, Goal Setting, Sales Skills and Management Systems including ISO systems etc.

Mr Verma started the session by speaking about quality management in general; it being the need of the hour in Higher Educational Institutions. He asked the faculty to define the word quality thus emphasizing the necessity to diagnose quality education.

He offered a few suggestions/recommendations for value addition and improving in the quality of education. He stated the following:

  • Feedback from stakeholders is paramount.
  • Create environment for student learning abilities that suit industry needs.
  • Adopt methodologies to improve teaching quality and student performance.
  • Measure the effectiveness of vision, mission and objectives as stated by the institution
  • Affirmed that the onus lies on the faculty too, to understand the institutional requirements. Faculty teams can be formed in departments to perform self-inspection and they can further run an internal audit /cross functional monitoring in the other departments at pre-determined intervals.
  • SOP [Standardised Operating Procedures] should be available at all times to help conduct routine activities.
  • Evidence of conduct of all activities is mandatory especially from a stakeholder’s point of view.

Later, Mr Verma emphasized on the importance of NAAC. He said NAAC accredited  

institution can inspire positive change in one’s life; help define one’s way of working. One can witness an intangible growth and improve the learning environment. It helps an individual in day to day activities besides, NAAC helps form a bond that builds and maintains great working relationships.

The floor was then open to questions.

Mr Vikas Verma ended the session by stating the importance of the extensive role of teachers’ in student’s life. A facilitator can mark a positive turning point in the students’ life. Most importantly, he said empathizing helps in understanding the educational needs of the students.

Faculty felt that the session was useful, relevant, insightful and interactive.
