UNIBIC, a brand, which is heading successfully for 10 years, is of an Australian origin with the thought-provoking line “Why have a good day when you can have a great day!”

We, the II Year BBA students visited the factory on 10th October’18 during the college hours. Prof Prakasha and Prof Yeshaswini accompanied us.

The company started its journey in 2004 with its headquarters in Bengaluru and has since then owned the hearts of thousands with their splendid and delightful cookies produced for consumers in India and abroad. They started off with two variants of cookies and today they have grown to 30 variants They started off as a 50-crore company and at present stand as 500 crore brand.     Mr. Sanith -Accounting and Documenting In charge gave us a short presentation throwing light on some key features such as history, expansion and production. They seemed to have had a decent rate of sales, later on they adopted paper package replacing the old box packing and this acted as catalyst to the booming sales. We were told that legendary cricketer Don Bradman was their first inspiration for the cookies’ name! We were taken into the manufacturing unit, shown the state -of- the- art machinery and the entire process of cookie making. As we came to the end of the factory tour, we were given insight about a few internships that can done in their company.

We are thankful to them for providing us an opportunity to gain some practical and informative knowledge. We are also grateful to our management for this interesting and successful visit.

Dayananda Sagar Business Academy, organized an industrial visit for the II Year BCom- Á students on the 11th of October 2018 during the college hours to Unibic Biscuits India Pvt. Ltd, Hoskur Road, Nelamangala. Prof Lakshmi kantha accompanied the students. It was intended as an exercise for the students to observe and gain a better understanding of the workings of factories and manufacturing units; and to observe the practical applications of theories studied in the confines of the classroom.

Our journey began at 9:30 am. The class assembled in the college foyer in uniform as that was expected in a professional setting such as this. We boarded the bus at around 10:00 am.

We arrived at the factory, and were invited into a lovely garden, at the centre of which the building stood. The class was given a tour as a single batch. The visit itself was rather short and concise. First, we were taken to a seminar hall and told about the company’s origins, their CSR activities and other information about their plant. We were given sanitary hair nets.

We left the seminar hall and travelled through to the front desk into a smaller corridor that led to the production area. We saw the process; at the inner core was a humid room where the dough was mixed in large mixing units and fed to cutting and baking machines. The dough was constantly monitored to maintain the perfect proportions of the cookies. The baked cookies were left to cool for some time and then sent by conveyer belts to employees who packaged them in plastic containers and placed it back on the conveyer. Then a machine cut the individual packing (wrapping sheets) and sealed the cookies in convenient packets with the manufacturing date and the company logo.    The visit ended with a couple of sample cookies. We were also offered a discount on the purchase of the cookies and cookie-boxes. We were back at college at 2 pm.

The trip showed us that simplicity is an asset to any production unit, and can be profitable if done right. This industrial visit has been an incredible opportunity to learn about the food industry and the manufacturing process involved in it. The care and ingenuity involved in the foods that we consume on a daily basis without much thought was made very clear. To be able to see the manufacturing process in action, and to see the live application of the knowledge acquired in the classroom was indeed eye opening. The sometimes-confusing nuances of the textbook were made clear, and presented in a practical, logical and simple way. The efforts behind these simple and practical solutions were also made apparent to us, which otherwise would have remained undiscovered and unappreciated...

As soon as we reached Unibic factory, Mr Sanith -Accounting and Documenting Incharge instructed us to wear caps to help maintain the good personal hygiene practices. We were quite excited to get inside the factory now. But before getting inside the factory, Mr Sanith provided us information about the Unibic products and history of the company. We were amazed to know about their high-quality range of cookies which includes -oatmeal, butter, jam, chocolate chip, sugar free cookies. Unibic Foods India serves customers worldwide as well. We were taken inside their manufacturing unit after the briefing and we were aghast to see the employees so dedicated to their work-working for hours together inspite of the heat; whereas, we could not withstand that very heat for a millisecond. We were shown the cookie manufacturing process in detail. We understood the entire process -storage and mixing, baking, branding, marketing and packaging. We sampled their cookies too and they are so delicious.

A big thanks to Unibic for giving us an exposure to the world of cookies. Thanks to the college management for sending us there …it is indeed a beautiful memory! The exciting and much awaited trip came to an end with clicking of some great group photographs.

Industrial visits are considered part of DSBA’s curriculum. The aim of an industrial visit is to provide students an insight regarding the internal working of companies. For a student’s good professional career, theoretical knowledge alone does not suffice, hence during the academic year the college provides students a practical perspective of the world of work by organizing visits to varied industries.

One such industrial visit was organized on 12 October 18 for the III Sem BCom- B students of DSBA to Unibic Foods India Pvt.Ltd, Hoskur Road, Nelamangala. The students under the guidance of Prof Keerthishree-III Sem BCom- B Coordinator and Prof Solomon-III Sem BCA Co-ordinator arrived at the factory premises at 11 am.

The students were shown a short presentation on the organization. The presentation highlighted Unibic company’s vision, mission, values, marketing strategies and pricing policies. Students were enlightened on the organizational structure too.

After the presentation, the students were taken to the manufacturing division and shown the entire process of making the cookies and the organization’s innovative packing system. What impressed all was the systematic and hygienic way the cookies were manufactured.

The conducted tour helped the students get a peek into the cookie world and understand behind-the-scenes magic of how the rich ingredients and dough get transformed into mouthwatering cookies that roll off the assembly line.

The students were back at the college at 2 pm.
