Awareness Session on Plastic Free Cleanliness Drive and Recycling

On 26th February, 2019 an awareness session on ‘Plastic Free Cleanliness Drive and Recycling Awareness Programme’ was conducted for the NSS volunteers from 2.30 pm onwards on the 4th floor B Block. The program was coordinated by Prof Kasthuri Gopal, NSS Program Officer. Dr Veena K N, Dean-DSBA and Prof Nikitha Sreekantha -HOD were present.

The session was conducted by Mr. Mayank Vashistha and Mr. Sumanth from The Art of Living.

Mr. Mayank is director of CORE and is a part of Sri Sri Rural Development Project -SSRDP. He involves himself in nature building activities like community of rural entrepreneurship, eco-enzyme products, waste management, areca leaf plant manufacturing and biodegradable plastic production.

Ms Parvathy [III Year BCom] introduced the guests and NSS Volunteers presented a bunch of flowers ad welcomed them.

The session was interactive and also ensured that students introspected about the situation around them and act responsibly. Mr. Mayank explained about how the usage of plastic is harmful but, at the same it has become a part of everyone’s lifestyle and to get rid of it wouldnot be a practical solution. A number of solutions were stated; how one could reuse plastic and ensure the disposal of plastic is taken care of and just not thrown away on the roads.

The NSS volunteers will be coming together every fortnight from now onwards and involve themselves in this campaign wholeheartedly and make sure that the entire stretch from Nice road to Kagglipura township littered with plastic is free from it.  Street plays and rallies will also be conducted as part of this awareness programme and people will be educated about the importance of disposal of plastic in a right manner. Before the close of the session ,Dr Veena and Prof Nikitha thanked the speakers and presented a token of appreciation on behalf of the institution.

Such drives are a wonderful opportunity for student volunteer’s participation and for creation of awareness in one’s neighbourhood. It is one of the most beneficial and effective projects that the NSS wing has taken up in association with the Art of Living.
