Field Trip to Garuda Polyflex Foods Pvt. Ltd

Field trips help bridge the gap between theoretical training and practical learning in a real-life environment. It helps students gain hands-on experience of how industry operations are executed besides, it enhances interpersonal skills and communication techniques, provide opportunities for active/interactive learning experiences in-class as well as outside the classroom environment.

  A field trip was made to Garuda Polyflex Foods Pvt. Ltd, Bommasandra Industrial area, Bangalore by the final year BBA and BCA students on 26th Mar 2019 during the college hours. They were accompanied by Prof Solomon

Garuda Polyflex Foods Pvt. Ltd is a joint venture established in the year 2011 between Garuda Food of Indonesia and the Polyflex Group of India.

Mr. Anson Albert, the Company HR demonstrated their famous consumer product called as Gone Mad and showed the students a video on the entire processing of the product. He also gave a brief about the company - Garuda Food is a $500 Million, 25 years old food and Beverage Company. It is a part of the Tudung Group which deals in Agribusiness, Food and Beverage manufacturing and distribution. It has 11 production plants, 18 beverage contract manufacturers, 6 food contract manufacturers in Indonesia and over 20,000 employees. The company was established in 2011. The unit’s built up area is approximately 7000 Sq.  meters.    

The brand's association with kids continues right from the time it was introduced in India in 2012, through an activity where it engaged with around 1,000 kids from schools in Bengaluru and Chennai to design doodles which are used in its packaging currently. They have a manufacturing facility for wafer sticks and jelly drinks. Most of the machinery and equipment are imported. The equipment for the production of jelly drink is bought from the world class beverage processing company - Alfa Laval based in Europe. The manufacturing team is highly qualified and motivated. The company is licensed by FSSAI. They have the ‘best in class’ water treatment plant to achieve the highest quality product and also an in-house quality testing facility for raw materials and finished products. They follow stringent quality norms to meet ISO 22000 standards. The entire legal requirement pertaining to pollution control board are followed strictly as a part of corporate social responsibility. This joint venture has launched Gone Mad Chocosticks in the chocolate segment, Gone Mad Jelly Drink and Gone Mad Chocolate Drink in the beverage segment and Gone Mad Sugar Cheese Cracker in the biscuit segment. GP Foods is in the process of rolling out exciting new product innovations.

 

Mr. Anson then guided the students to the factory plant showing them the entire process of Chocolate Wafers from manufacturing to packaging. After the visit, he also gave all a sample of the product and the visit concluded with an interactive session with the students by the factory personnel

Overall, the students understood the intricacies of a large FMCG unit. The students returned to college at 3 pm.
