Aastra 19-Inter Collegiate Fest at DSBA

DSBA hosted the second edition of cultural, technical, management and sports Inter-collegiate fest Aastra’19 on 8th and 9th May 2019 at the college campus. The institution gladly invited number of colleges to compete and win cash prizes, certificates, trophies and awards for numerous events ranging from literary, IT, cultural, management and sports. The whole event was well organised by the student head co-ordinators; Management-Ms Anushri, Cultural-Ms Pooja DN, Photography and Games-Mr Prajwal K R, Sports-Mr Bhargav and IT-Mr Gagan under the able guidance of Mr Basil, Corporate Relations Manager and Prof Nikitha Sreekantha, HOD. Faculty members from the various disciplines also pitched in to co-ordinate the events.

 

The inaugural function on 8th May’19 began at 10 am on the IV Floor at B Block and the emcee was Ms B S Sharvani, Final Year BCom student. She welcomed the Chief Guest -Mr Soorya Kailash, MD- Messrs Kailash Dev Infrastructure India Pvt. Ltd, Dr [Brig] Sandes, Principal; Dr Veena K N, Dean; Prof Nikitha Sreekantha, HOD; faculty; participants of the fest and DSBA students. The inaugural function was coordinated by Prof Roopashree and Prof Meera Seshanna.

The programme began with a welcome address by Dr Sandes, who believes in the holistic development in students; hence, institution lays equal importance to academics, co-curricular and extra-curricular activities. He added that fests are an amalgamation of fun and learning and conducting them help students for the real world-Fests bring academic benefits, besides students learn from social interaction and hone their soft skills. Mr Surya Kailash, Dr Sandes, Prof Nikitha and the fest participants were invited to the dais to light the lamp. An invocation to almighty was rendered by Ms Maitreyee Chakrabarty [III Year BBA] and Ms Anumita Paul [I Year BBA]. It was followed by a Bharatanatyam performance by Ms Chaithra Mendan [III Year BBA].

Ms Sharvani introduced the guest Mr Soorya Kailash to the audience. Kailashdev Infrastructure India Private Limited is a 21st century construction company powered by richly experienced and qualified dynamic professionals, organised to carry out construction activities such as Real Estate Development, Urban Infrastructure Development and Industrial Infrastructure Development. Mr. Soorya Kailash, the eldest son of C.P.Kailashdev, is at the helm of the Kailashdev Infrastructure. Mr Kailash studied at DSCE and holds a Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering from Visvesvaraya Technological University and a Master's Degree in Business Administration from Cardiff University, United Kingdom. He is also on the board of Manikanda Group and has played a pivotal role in the growth of the Group. He has been responsible for the identification of opportunities for the company and takes care in managing organizational performance, formulating business strategy and plans, defining the scope of enterprise, initiating business goals, developing new markets, forecasting and analysing finance for projects.

Mr Kailash’s address was interactive. He engaged the audience for a few minutes in meditation and stated its importance especially to the competitors/ participants as it is a new mindfulness method to perform well. He also stressed on the important thing for success – which is nothing but right attitude. Then he declared the fest open!

Large number of participants from various colleges in the city registered themselves at the B Block foyer and the student coordinators guided them to their respective venues.

The events that were conducted on 8th May 2019 were Best Manager, Business Quiz, Finance, HR, Debate, Solo Dance, Solo Singing, Talent A Tale, Mehendika, Face Your Fantasy, Hogathon, Shutter Bug, Sport events such as Football, Cricket and Badminton.

Experts in their respective fields obliged student’s request for judging the events as external judges/ referees.

Events that were held on 9th May 2019 were Business Quiz, 4th and 5th Round Best Manager, Finance Round Live -Stock Trading, Case Study-Balance Sheet Analysis, Best Manager-Stress Round, CS GO, Shutter Up, Coding-Decoding, Treasure Hunt and continuation of all sporting events.

At 4:30 pm, valedictory function was held on the stage next to the girl’s hostel at the campus. The emcees of the valedictory function were Mr Vedanth Mohite [II Year BCom], Ms Pooja D N and Mr Prajwal K R [II Year BBA]. Mr Prajwal hosted the first part and invited Ms Aishwarya’s dance company ‘Dantza’ to present their medley of dances. Mr Vedanth took over and invited the Principal to bestow prizes to the winners. Dr [Brig] Sandes gave away the cash prizes, medals, trophies and certificates to the prize winners.

The much-awaited fashion show commenced at 5 pm. With the right attitude and poise, contestant groups walked the ramp and amazed the spectators with aplomb and panache. The breath-taking display ended with the judge, Ms Bhavana Reddy walking on the ramp herself! She awarded the prize winners-students from PES College with cash prize, medals, certificate and trophy. The runners-up – students from Bishop Cottons College were awarded certificates and medals too.

Ms Pooja D N proposed the vote of thanks. All the judges were given a memento as a token of appreciation by Prof Nikitha Sreekantha, HOD.The valedictory function was coordinated by Prof Meera Krishnan and Prof Crissy Mathew.

The sponsors of the fest were nammajob.com, Dhanalakshmi Jewellers, Kailash Dev Group, GBT Groups and Sri Veerabhadraswamy Petroleum.

At 7 pm, the stage was set for the splendid DJ Nite which brought out the grooves in each and every one. DJ captured the crowd’s attention in a short span and belted out popular chart busters. DSBA students thoroughly enjoyed themselves and had the time of their life !
