Faculty Development Programme on Research Methodology

A Faculty Development Programme on ‘Research Methodology’ was conducted by IQAC at DSBA on 12th and 13th April 2018 at G-O5 during the college hours.

The Dean, Dr Veena K N introduced the facilitator - Dr V. Krishnamoorthy. He is from the Department of Management Studies at Kongu Engineering College, Erode, Tamil Nadu. Dr Krishnamoorthy has 17 years of teaching experience. He has published papers in 10 national journals, 21 in International journals and presented about 32 papers in National Conferences and 21 in International Conferences.     

On Day one of the FDP, the session began with icebreakers. Gauging the comfort level, Dr Krishnamoorthy enumerated the ideal qualifications of a teacher as teaching, consultancy and research. Next, he discussed the reason one undertakes research, qualities of researcher, selecting a research topic and identifying base papers. To access the base papers, he provided the links of the websites from where one could download them which would further help in one’s research. He also demonstrated the same for easy understanding. Besides that, he also shared links to help one access books for the purpose of research. Dr Krishnamoorthy also provided valuable inputs about what one can do in case of difficulties. Further, he spoke about the types of research approaches, research design and comparisons, literature survey, sources of literature, strategies and tips for literature review and also gave a gist on plagiarism.

Before summarising on the topics covered during the day, he spoke about the ways one can get funding, the details of funding agencies and all the nitty-gritty regarding funding.

His forthrightness made the training session interesting and the faculty members looked forward to the session the next day!

On Day two, Dr Krishnamoorthy continued with the discussion of the nuances of impactful research and gave an introduction to SPSS-sampling design process and techniques, questionnaire - the ideal one, research hypothesis and errors, tools for data analysis. In the noon, he narrated the art of writing and publishing a research paper – he explained the entire structure of a research paper and ended the session with identification of peer reviewed and indexed journals. At the end of the session, Dr Krishnamoorthy was open to answering queries from the audience.  

The Principal, Dr [Brig] Sandes thanked Dr Krishnamoorthy and presented a token of appreciation on behalf of the institution. Certificates of participation were handed to the participants of the FDP.

The FDP benefited the existing and potential research scholars and faculty members to hone their research acumen.
