Orientation on Career Edge Program /CA-CS Foundation and Other Certifications

A day after the inaugural program i.e. on 9 July’19 an ‘Orientation on Career Edge Program /CA-CS Foundation and Other Certifications’ was given to the I Year BCom and BBA students at the IV floor, B Block between 10 am and 12 pm.

The facilitator for the session was Mr Shriram Vamsi - MBA - FMS Delhi, ACA, ACMA, is a Co-founder of ProEdge Consulting and Training LLP. He has 12 years’ experience in Standard Chartered Bank, HSBC & IDFC Bank. Mr Shriram Vamsi has extensive experience in Client Relationship and Sales in Corporate and Investment Banking.

Mr Vamsi started the session by sharing his life journey and experiences with the students. Then he wanted to know the reason for the students having selected commerce. He spoke about the pros and cons of commerce, definition and areas in commerce and examples of the acts of commerce. According to him, commerce is at par with science stream if not better! He motivated the students by stating that the power of commerce is such that as a CA the students can earn much more than an engineer. To get a good job one needs right personality, knowledge and confidence.

He then spoke about the options available to the BCom/BBA students-The first option being the professional courses-CA, CS and CMA, the second option is taking up a job in the BFSI Sector and the third option is to pursue MBA or even a government job.A person who is qualified as a CA or CS has a choice in a wide variety of roles, a career path spanning 40 areas, can work in various sectors -public, private of government agencies. He then spoke about why one should opt for CA- The reason being -it’s the highest qualification, helps in filling the gap between demand and supply, for status, reputation, global mobility, economical flexibility and employment.

Mr Vamsi delved into the levels of the CA/CS course and emphasized that one needs passion to do well in CA. He further added that, when one completes Level Two, one is half qualified as a CA and he/ she can still get a good salary. Though wanting to be a CA/CS can be a dream of the students, one must aim to complete Level 2 by the time one graduates. Next, he spoke about the CA Plan and the CS Plan. He listed the subjects and emphasized on the strength and the way one can crack the subjects. While pursuing CA, one needs to focus on the concepts and application. He suggested that by being disciplined and spending one hour towards studies for the next four years will help one to sail through Level 2. He also stressed on the importance of muscle memory and practise. He reiterated that, if one wills truly one can do what one wants!

ProEdge offers CA Foundation coaching and has an expertise in it since 2011. The coaching has been conducted in more than 95 colleges and over 2000 students are with ProEdge for CA Foundation Course. He enlightened the students that the classroom coaching will be conducted for three years at the college campus by experienced ProEdge trainers. He informed the students about the program schedule and mentioned that all the students opting for the coaching will get the study material, fees being Rs 5000. ProEdge will also assist in the registration with ICAI & CSI. Interested students could register for the course by 11^th July’19.

Career Edge, part of ProEdge offers employability certification course. He spoke about the importance of such a course – Students doing the course could improve in their interpersonal skills; would know how the industry and job functions. He also quoted with statistics that there is a huge number of opportunities available if one is armed with skills in the BFSI sector itself -There are about 38 areas. Career Edge will be conducting the sessions in the campus. It’s a 3-year plan with 60 hours each year for BCom/BBA students with Finance, Accounts, Sales and Marketing specialisation. In the final year, additional 5 hours will be set aside for refining the job skills. Industry experts will take the classes. He further stated that he himself will act as a guide for students aspiring for CA/CS, have one-on-one session with them and help them decide whether they should opt for CA or CS. For students having a science background, remedial classes will be taken. However, students opting for CA/CS will not be able to attend Employability certification course due to the paucity of time but all the relevant issues will be taught to them in the CA/CS course itself.

The session and the discussion helped the students get an idea about the various options available to them and help determine their future course of action.
