Bridge Program for the newly admitted Undergrads

DSBA understands that college is a major transition for students, so it offers a uniquely designed range of programs in the Bridge Programme that can help newly admitted first year students make a changeover from the pre-university level to the university. This also ensures a seamless start into one’s graduate career.

Prof Nikitha Sreekantha, HOD-UG designed and coordinated all the events of the Bridge Program.Prof Shaziya Begum and Prof Meera krishnan assisted her in the day to day conduct of the activities.

The Inaugural Program for Freshers - BBA/B. Com/BCA was held on 8th July 2019 between 10 am and 12:30 pm at the IV Floor A Block. The venue for interaction with class teachers, signing parent/student undertaking & Filling forms for MyDSI portal were Rooms 103, 104, 106 & Computer Lab at the B Block.

The schedule for the ten-day Bridge Programme was as follows:

  • Orientation on Career Edge Program/ CA-CS Foundation Program and other Certification Programs for BBA/B. Com by Mr. Shriram Vamsi, Director-
  • Orientation on BCA Certification Programs by Prof. Anoop, DSATM – Computer Science Department
  • Orientation on Tally/Microsoft Excel DM & other Training Programs for BBA/BCA/B. Com by Mr. Kiran Kumar, Director – NICT Computer Education

 Orientation on Library facility by Mr. Rudresha D C

Mr. Rudresha D C, M.L.I.Sc., M.Phil., (Ph. D) gave a brief about the Library & Information Centre between 3:30 pm and 4 pm. He enlightened the students about the library-location, milestones, the Library team, collections, rules & regulations; about the services-membership, services, reference, private study zone, user awareness, print zone and the Digital Library-IT Infrastructure, open access resources, additional services, e-resources and D-space.

Orientation on Language Selection by DSBA Language Faculty-This was conducted between 4 pm and 4:30 pm by Prof Hari Krishna [Hindi], Dr Shantha Shaivalini [Sanskrit] and Prof Meera Krishnan [Additional English]

  • An interactive session on “Conscious Leadership” by Ms. Archana Krishnamurthy

An activity called ‘Ice Breaker & Expectation Setting’ was conducted between 1:30 and 4 pm in rooms G-04 [BBA & BCom A] and Room G-05 [BCA & BCom B] .The activity was coordinated by Prof Meera Krishnan & Prof Meera Seshanna in G-04 and Prof Crissy Mathew and Prof Shaziya Begum in G-05.Students were first divided into teams. An introduction icebreaker ‘Getting to Know You’ was conducted; wherein, half an hour’s time was allotted to the team members to gather as much of information as they could about their team members and later an individual had to introduce the other in the team stating their names, interests and few unique qualities of that team member. This helped the students get acquainted with one another. Students enjoyed this activity as it was interesting and humorous.

 Prof Meera Krishnan addressed the students and briefed them about the collage activity. The collage activity ‘Nature & Me’ was scheduled for 11th and 12th July’19

Entrepreneurial Thinking by Dr Veena K N -Dean

Dr Veena’s talk included why entrepreneurial thinking is required and the changing narrative of entrepreneurship. The activities conducted in the session dealt with the theme and encouraged students to ‘think out of the box.’ The session was from 10 am to 11:30 am.

 Management lessons from Bhagvad Gita by Dr Shantha Shaivalini-DSBA Faculty

Dr Shaivalini stated the Bhagvad Gita slokas from the management view and highlighted Work culture, setting priorities, principle of unity, controlling, adoption of changes & innovation, cooperation, work efficiency & commitment. The session was from 11:45 am to 12:45 pm.

IT Skills for Managers by Prof. Vasudev Rao, HOD – MCA, DSATM

Prof Vasudev Rao’s session was from 9:30 am to 11:30 am and included the following- Business skills every IT Manager needs, how to be a successful leader, why is successful leadership important, Management and leadership, the leadership challenge, how to be a successful leader- essential elements, how to motivate employees at workplace and how to deal with difficult employees

Time Management by Prof. Nikitha Sreekantha-HOD

Prof Nikitha Sreekantha’s session covered the following -Keys to be successful in life; Communication, Time Management, Right Attitude and Self-Management Skills in detail; Time Management-Why important; Different techniques used to manage personal and professional life; video showing iceberg theory; time wasting culprits, priorities and goals; elimination of non-priorities, and tips. The understanding of the theoretical aspects was gauged by means of group activities. Her session was from 10 am to 12:30 pm.

  Aptitude Training by Prof. Meera Seshanna-DSBA Faculty

Prof Meera Seshanna conducted an aptitude test [for attending interviews] from 1:30 pm to 3:30 pm which included testing on logical reasoning, basic numbers, GK, and mathematical ability.

    

Basics of Accounts by Prof Nazeer Pasha

Prof Nazeer Pasha discussed all nitty- gritty of accounts-what, why, how, where & when. His session ended with an emphasis on career prospects with accounts.

               

The bridge programme ended with the students giving a detailed feedback of all the sessions.
