Freshers Day 2019

Do not wait for the perfect moment, take the moment and make it perfect. -Zoey Sayward An important day for every freshman! The Freshers Day. A day to welcome all the first-year students into the folds of the institution. It took place on 10th August 2019 at 11 am at the IV Floor Hall. The second- and third-year students excitedly volunteered to organize the event under the able guidance of Prof Crissy Mathew, Faculty Incharge-Cultural Club. First year non-participant students were given a dress colour code: White top/shirt and black/blue jeans. Students participating in Mr and Ms Fresher had to adorn a suit/gown. Mr Vedanth Mohite [III Year BCom student], the emcee of the morning welcomed Dr [Brig] Sandes, Principal; Dr Veena K N, Dean; Prof Nikitha Sreekantha, HOD; faculty and the freshmen. The program commenced with a beautiful rendition of a Kannada song by Mr Prajwal K R and Mr Gautham B [III Year BBA students]. The three judges for Mr and Ms Fresher-Prof Lakshmikantha, Prof Kasthuri Gopal and Prof Meera Krishnan were welcomed and invited to occupy the designated seats. Soon after, eighteen Mr and Ms Fresher eye masked contestants walked the ramp wearing their confidence. This round helped the judges and the rest of the audience evaluate each participants’ confidence in carrying themselves and their outward personality. Then the contestants came again, one by one and introduced themselves in their own unique way to the crowd and the judges, making the best first impression to the judges and thus ensuring that they are chosen for the next round. The criteria for judgement of round one was as follows: Stage presence, presentation and confidence. After the contestants left the stage, the students of II Year BCom- Ms Meghana, Ms Divya, Ms Aishwarya and Ms Kusuma performed an energetic group dance. Meanwhile, the judges decided the contestants for round two by eliminating four contestants [two boys and two girls]. Round two of Mr and Ms Fresher contest was a prop round and the criteria for judgement of this round was use of prop, creativity and entertainment value. The fourteen contestants were given the following props-comb, cloth napkin, mobile phone, wrist watch, flower, sling bag, helmet, water bottle, traffic cone, balloon, t shirt, spectacles, mask and school bag by Ms Rifha Mariame [ III Year BCom Student]. This was a fun and interesting level and, in this round, all contestants were given the chance to show everyone what their talents were while they used their props. The participants who were able to impress the judges, moved to the next level. Mr Adithyan of II Year BCom sang a melodious song while the judges decided the contestants for round three. Out of fourteen, four contestants [Two boys and two girls] were eliminated. This was followed by yet another sweet and harmonious song by Mr Sameer of II Year BBA. The emcee called out the 10 contestants for Mr and Ms Fresher-Round three. In this round, the judges asked each participant a question that ranged from general, witty to the more personal and thought-provoking queries. The four finalists [ Two boys and Two girls] were chosen based on the following parameters-spontaneity, substance and delivery. Ms Meghana of III Year BCA performed a solo dance and mesmerised the audience with her moves. The audience enjoyed watching the dance by devouring the sumptuous snacks that was organized specially for all freshers. Then came the twist in the tale! The four finalists -Ms Pragathi, Ms Sarah, Mr Sujay and Mr Shashank were questioned by Dr [Brig] Sandes. The ones who gave the correct answers were Ms Sarah [I Year BCA] and Mr Shashank [I Year BCom] who were declared the winners! Dr [Brig] Sandes presented the tiara and the sash to Ms Sarah-Ms Fresher ’19 and Dr Veena presented the sash and crown to Mr Shashank-Mr Fresher’19. Prof Nikitha presented gifts to both of them. Certificates were awarded by the Principal to the winners of the Bridge Program’19 activities- Collage Presentation, Time Management and Aptitude Training winners. This segment was coordinated by Prof Meera Krishnan.
