IQAC Session on Understanding Accreditation

IQAC organized a session on ‘Understanding Accreditation’ on 13th September 2019 for the faculty between 10 am and 1 pm. The session was conducted in Room G-04. Dr Veena K N –Dean welcomed Prof. Dr. K. Muthuchelian, the facilitator of the session.

Dr [Brig] Sandes-Principal presented a bouquet and welcomed Prof. Dr. K. Muthuchelian. Prof Crissy Mathew introduced Prof. Dr. K. Muthuchelian to the participants of the session.      

Prof. Dr. K. Muthuchelian is a world renowned biology scientist and currently Pro Vice Chancellor of Dayananda Sagar University, Bangalore. He obtained his Master’s Degree in Botany from Madurai Kamaraj University with distinction, earned Doctorate Degree from the School of Biological Sciences, Madurai Kamaraj University, Madurai, India and Post-Doctoral research from the University of Ancona, Italy. He has been conferred with the prestigious "Doctor of Science (D.Sc.)” in recognition of his research accomplishments on “Biomass resource management and technology”. On his research contributions, he has published 220 research papers in peer-reviewed National and International Journals. Till date, he has organized 35 National and International Scientific Conferences. He has produced 40 PhDs. and currently 05 Ph.D. scholars have submitted their thesis for evaluation.

Dr Muthuchelian addressed the faculty and told them that NAAC was formed to address the widespread concern on the quality and relevance of the higher education.He spoke about the seven criteria which serves as the basis for NAAC Assessment of HEIs and elaborated on the key aspects, assessment and accreditation outcome that includes qualitative and quantitative components, distribution of metrics and key indicators across criteria and their weightages, and the grading system. 

He gave a gist on the Capability Enhancement & Development Schemes introduced at the various Cells/ Centres of Dayananda Sagar University as an example and highlighted on the impact of accreditation and assessment, the lessons from experience, besides laid emphasis on targets of IQAC Cell. Towards the end of his talk, he stated the achievable targets that should be set by the schools/departments and teaching faculty. 

DSBA faculty interacted with Dr Muthuchelian throughout the invigorating session, many a times addressing their queries .The responses were adeptly handled by the facilitator.  Prof Meera Seshanna thanked Dr Muthuchelian for the insightful session and shared her session experience stating that the nitty-gritty of NAAC was easily understood and the session was immensely beneficial to all participants.
