The traditional Indian custom of passing down epics and village folklore from one generation to the next through storytelling is slowly dying with increasing globalization and the all-pervasive media.
Communities world over are preserving the collective memory of the traditional tales. Hence the Literary Club ‘The Urban Reader’ took a step forward and recreated the magic of story telling by trying to revive the dying art form.
In addition, the aim of conducting the event for the youth was to build up the confidence, to present the story with expressions, sharpen their presentation skills; enhance their creativity skill; develop literary, personal, social and emotional skills and in the process have fun.
The competition was open for all students and there was an overwhelming enthusiastic response of 69 registrations. Students could choose a language of their choice to narrate their stories and they were a melting pot of fables, fiction, non-fiction, mysterious, humour, anthology of short stories, personal anecdotes. The competition began at 10 am and went on till 1:30 pm. Each participant was given a maximum time of 10 minutes.
Ms Lasya Priya judged the participants narrating English stories; Prof Prakasha judged the Kannada participants; while Prof Hari Krishna judged Hindi participants and Dr Damodar did the same for Sanskrit.
The Literary Club student coordinators from II Year BBA -Mohammad Muiz and Pragati Bishal coordinated the entire event right from making posters -promoting and publicizing the event till coordinating the flow of events on the final day.
