With the advent of fast-growing technologies, the impact of Industry 4.0 in general and on the business environment is gigantic. Especially so, with the arrival of the Covid – 19 pandemic, business organizations are forced to accept and adapt technology. However, organisations of varying size and complexity do face different challenges with respect to survival, sustenance and scalability. Fast changing market and societal expectations puts stress on the organizations and only those which are agile, innovative and make appropriate approaches in all functional areas of business can survive and sustain. The field of education is no exception either. With the onset of pandemic, educational institutions have also adapted themselves by resorting to the hybrid modes of teaching.

Under the guidance of ‘The Internal Quality Assurance Cell’ (IQAC) DSBA, the virtual 5th International Conference was conducted wherein, a platform was provided for scholars and thought leaders across academia and organizations to debate, discuss and deliberate upon the descriptive characteristics: Impact of automation /digitalization /use of technology in all functional areas of businesses.

Prof Meera Krishnan and Prof Crissy Mathew were the emcees of the event. The Chief Guest was Dr. KNB Murthy, Vice Chancellor, DSU. 

The conference began on an auspicious note with an invocation song. 

It was followed by a welcome address by the Conference Chair and Principal, DSBA, Dr. (Brig) Sandes.

He emphasized on how Data is impacting business; data explosion as exponential; symbiotic relationhip between man and machine; data driven decision making; using digital technologies as an opportunity and the need of the hour.

 In his keynote address, the Chief Guest, Dr K N B Murthy - currently serving as the Vice-Chancellor of Dayananda Sagar University (DSU), Bengaluru which he joined on April 01, 2020- mentioned that he was pleased with the choice of the conference topic as the scenario around the globe entails it. He further spoke about understanding the data driven digital methods, steps and the components of data acquisition, using the available data effectively; understanding its importance to survive and sustain in business.

The topic for the Panel Discussion was ‘Leveraging technology for Survival, Sustenance and Scaling in Retail Sector’. The moderator was Mr. Varad Rajan Krishna, the Managing Director at Induct AS Asia & MENA [Middle East/North Africa], and Cofounder & Managing Partner at Startup360 Accelerator. The panellists were Mr. Ashok G, CEO & Co-Founder at STARTUP360 India; Mr. Ponnu Subramanian, Retail & Consumer Consultant in Bangalore; Mr. Sandip Singh who has helped set up sales teams for US, EU and APAC regions.; and Mr. Siva Balakrishnan, Founder and CEO Vserve Ebusiness Solutions.

The experts discussed about how retail sector, both online and offline have adapted to the new challenges in the context of Covid 19 pandemic.

The plenary session had the following speakers:

Dr. Murat GÜLMEZ. Vice Dean, Faculty of Economics and Administrative Sciences, CAG University, Mersin / Turkey. His talk highlighted on the Transformation of Higher Education at the dawn of COVID – 19.

An army veteran, Col Krishnan Srinivasan, Head Security Risk Management & Governance, Reliance Industries, Ltd gave a talk on Corporate Governance and Leadership.     

The sponsor, Mindparkour provides courses that has been able to bring a positive impact to the lives of thousands of individuals. The CEO and Founder of Mind parkour, Mr. Nitin Prabhakar addressed the gathering. 

Dr Nikitha Sreekantha, HOD, Undergraduate Programmes and Organizing Committee Chairperson proposed the vote of thanks; in which, she thanked all the dignitaries and the speakers who had shared their inputs on the conference theme.

Post lunch, participants proceeded to the allocated virtual rooms for their respective paper presentations.

Track 4

The session was chaired by Dr Krishnamoorthy, presently working in the Department of Management Studies at Kongu Engineering College, Erode. 4 papers were presented in this track and the track was moderated by Prof Nazeer Pasha and Prof Akshay.

Track 5

The session was chaired by Dr S J Manjunath. He is a Professor in the Department of Studies in Business Administration at B N Bahadur Institute of Management Sciences, University of Mysore. 5 papers were presented in this track and it was moderated by Prof Meera Seshanna and Prof Renuka.

Track 6

The session was chaired by Dr Sowmya C S, working as an Associate Professor- HR, WE School, Welingkar, Bangalore. 4 papers were presented in this track and it was moderated by Prof Rajani D K and Prof Usha.

Track 7

The session was chaired by Dr Shubha Muralidhar. She is a faculty at Department of Management Studies, BMSCE. 4 papers were presented in this track and the track was moderated by Prof Roopashree and Prof Lakshmikantha.

The Best Paper Award was bagged by Ms. Shraddha Shripad Bandivadekar from Shobhit Institute of Engineering & Technology (Deemed-to-be-University), Meerut-250110, India for her paper titled ‘Survival and Sustenance of Online Pharmacies in the Indian Scenario’.

The Second-Best Paper Awards were bagged by the following recipients:

Ms. Rupa Chatterjee Das & Dr. Anjana Devi S.C from DSATM for their paper titled ‘An Analytical Evaluation of Effectiveness on Remote Working’.

Ms. R Manjushree, Seshadripuram Institute of Commerce and Management and Ms. B Rakshitha, Bishop Cotton Christian College for Women for their paper titled ‘Consumer Behaviour towards the changes from General Banking Mechanisms to Green Banking’.

Mr. Siddarth Baliga for his paper titled The Paradox of Choice in a Hypercompetitive Digital Era’.

Dr Veena K N, Dean DSBA and the Conference Co-Chair presented a report on the proceedings of the International Conference 2020 in which she highlighted the significance of the conference theme; takeaway thoughts of each individual speakers – Dr [Brig] Sandes, Dr K N B Murthy; Panel Discussion as well as the Plenary Sesson speakers and ended her report by announcing the paper presenter awardees.

Prof Meera Krishnan proposed the vote of thanks. That brought an end to yet another International Conference at DSBA!!
