Kannada Rajyotsava Vicharadhare

NSS wing and literary club of Dayananda Sagar Business Academy celebrated 65th Kannada Rajyostva in association with Sadana Degree College, Bangalore. The program started with a short video about the Kannada language and its rich history depicted in a song. Our NSS Programme Officer Prof. Rajani D K welcomed Dr. Nikitha Sreekanta HOD, DSBA, Prof. Prakash DSBA, Prof. B T Thimmegowda, Sadana Degree College, NSS Volunteers of DSBA and the students of Sadana Degree College.  Then a Kannada patriotic song ‘hacchevu Kannadada Deepa’ was sung by Rakshitha S, 5th sem B.com, DSBA. 

Then, Prof. Prakash, DSBA, talked about the Kannada ekikarana and the richness of the language. He also spoke about the number of Jnanpith Awards received for Kannada literature and how Mysore state became Karnataka. He also recalled the problems in the borders of Karnataka especially in the areas of Nipani and Kasaragod and left a deep thought on the minds of students that why these problems exist and how they can be resolved. 

Prof. Thimmegowda of Sadana Degree College stated that the Kannada language is 2000 old and compared the language with different Indian languages. He spoke about the respect given to women in our culture, in our state referring to the names of the rivers and also how we treat our guests. He then explained to us how neat and uniform our language is referring to the Varnamale or the alphabets and its pronunciation. He advised us to converse in the Kannada language and stated that it’s our responsibility to use and save our language.

Subhashree, 3rd sem B.com, Sadana Degree College spoke about the need of making the Kannada language necessary for the people who come from other states to live in Karnataka. She also named a few famous people from Karnataka like Pampa, Visveshwaraya etc. she also talked about Gokak Chaluvali (agitation) and Thribasha Sutra (three-language formula). She expressed her opinion that if we speak in Kannada then there is no need to do something great to save our language; it will live for generations ahead. 

Bhavana N M, 5th sem B.com, DSBA spoke about Mysore Dynasty, its history, its festivities like Dasara during Navratri. She also stated that Karunadu means ‘the land of black soil’ or ‘the elevate land’.

Vasu, 5th sem B.com, Sadana Degree College spoke about being prideful to be born in this land referring to its history and culture. He then talked about Bhaskaracharya, a great mathematician born in Bijapur, and told the story of his calculations related to his daughter’s marriage. He also spoke about his book Leelavathi in the name of his daughter containing problems that are still not solved by any of the modern mathematicians. 

Our NSS Program Officer Prof. Rajani D K, spoke about the richness of the Kannada literature referring to the novels of Kuvempu, Bendre and other novelist and insisted us to read them.

She then talked about Dr. N Someswara, the presenter of Thatt Antha Heli telecasted on DD Chandana and the current online version of the show in which Kannadigas residing in different countries are taking part. She also spoke about the contributions of the Mysore dynasty to Karnataka including dams, power generation units, employment generation through various PSUs to name a few. 

Pratibha I, 5th sem B.com, DSBA, educated us about the Vijayanagara dynasty, its history, its start, end, architecture and temples built by them like Kamala Mahal, Kalahasti, Srisailam etc. Then Arpitha H S, 5th sem B.com, DSBA, spoke about the Kannada language its formation the transition from Halegannada to Nadugannada to Hosagannada and the period in which this happened. She also talked about the population with Kannada as their mother tongue and Kannada speaking population. She quoted Shri Vinoba Bhave who called Kannada Vishwa Lipigala Raani i.e. Queen of World Scripts. Later Rakshitha B, 5th sem B.com, DSBA, spoke about the Hoysala dynasty its expansion, architecture style temples of Beluru, Halebidu and Somanathapura. 

Dr. Nikitha Sreekanta HOD, DSBA shared her experience of celebrating Kannada Rajyotsava during her stay in America. She also shared her opinion on parents and schools imposing other languages like English on students. 

Prof. Prakash thanked Prof. B T Thimmegowda, our HOD and the students of both the colleges for participating in the session conducted virtually through Zoom Application. We are thankful for our NSS Programme Officer Prof. Rajani D K, Dr. Nikitha Sreekanta HOD, Prof.Prakash DSBA for organizing the session and providing us the digital Certificate of Participation.
