On the 14th January 2022, we had an orientation session on the Modern Trade-An Overview .

Mr.Nanda Kishore was our resource person. He has a two decades of experience in the retail industry and he also comes with an experience in establishing profitable sales & distribution models.

He spoke about various aspects such as:

  • Various types of distribution and explained each one of them.
  • What retail is and explained it.
  • Types of retail such as traditional, modern, online, omni, hyper & direct to customers. He spoke majorly about traditional and modern type of retail.
  • What traditional retail is and the examples of traditional retail such as vegetable sellers, meat seller, fish seller, flower seller and grocery seller.
  • What modern retail is and the examples of modern retail such as convenience stores, super market, hypermarket, speciality store & departmental store. He explained each examples in detail.
  • Modern trade key functions such as merchandising,store operations,supply chain,logistic and marketing.
  • Food & Grocery market overview.
  • Broad rules such as business model and target audience.
  • Understanding buying & categorization.
  • Understanding critical factors influencing the buyer roles.
  • Joint Business Plan with Suppliers and Vendor Partners.

All the students got a clear image about what a retail industry actually is and how it works...

The session ended with question & answer round , asked by the students. It was a very interactive, informative and useful session, the orientation session helped us gain a lot of knowledge about the trade and retail industry.
