Ms. Saumya previously started a company called Yellow Leaf but closed the business before starting her MBA studies at Kellogg School of Management; and later launched Kheyti, which helps small holder farmers battle income variability through its ‘Greenhouse-in – a – Box, low cost greenhouse bundled with end-to-end services.
Ms. Saumya has won several awards such as Common Bond Social Impact Award, Kellogg Social Entrepreneurship Award and Mass Challenge Israel Diamond Award for her work. She was also selected as a Forbes 30 under 30 Social Entrepreneur in 2019.
In the rendezvous, Ms Saumya mentioned the inspiration behind the initiative; the concept of Greenhouse-in – a – Box- the way it works; the cost effective innovative sustainable model for farmers; schemes- training programmes, market advisory systems and financial aid measures; services to rural India; pre Covid and effect of Covid on Kheyti; importance of scaling up for social enterprises; relevance of innovation in their sector; employee retention; governmental policies ; social enterprise ecosystem and what excites her about her job.
Ms Soumya’s inspirational talk through and her last words helped in demystifying the social enterprise.
