On 8th March 2022, A grand celebration was organised to mark the International Women’s Day. However, the International Women’s Day website diverted from the UN given theme and announced: “Break the Bias” as this year’s concept. It explains the values of the theme as, “A world free of bias, stereotypes, and discrimination. A world that is diverse, equitable, and inclusive. A world where difference is valued and celebrated.”

 

The guest of the day was Dr. Sowmya CS, Associate Professor, We School, Bangalore. Dr Sowmya C S has about 17 yrs. experience having worked as HR/OB/Entrepreneurship faculty with leading B Schools in Bangalore. She has a PhD in Leadership Development from Banasthali Vidyapith and also a Master’s degree in Industrial Psychology from Bangalore University. She has corporate experience in HR with companies like Siemens Communication Software, Genisys Software, and Everest Consultants Inc, USA. She regularly conducts Management Development Programs for companies like Infosys BPM,

 

Apotex, Mc Donald’s, KSRP and SBI. She has published Scopus indexed research papers and also published a case in Case Center, UK.

 

The event that was organized for the day was panel discussion. The event commenced at 11 AM, the event was hosted by Sharon Kamala. P of final year BCA. She welcomed the honorable principal and the guest of the day. Dr Sowmya CS. The judges for the event were Dr Sowmya CS and Prof Vasudeva Rao. The criteria on which the event was judged was presentation and communication skills, confidence and body language, time management and awareness about the topic. each criterion was for 5 points and the overall was for 20 points. Followed by our principal, Dr Veena KN, also Enlighted all the students with some inspiring words. The students were different topics given to each team related to women. Each group were given 15 minutes for the discussion. Students from all the branches participated in this event and expressed their views on the given topics. The winner of the event was, first place was secured by Chavi, Druthi, Naveedha and Deekshitha of BCom 1st year on the topic women and leadership. Second place was secured by Chaya, Joshitha, Divya shree and Hemanth of BCom 1st year of the topic crime against women and the third place was secured by Bilal, Shreya, Adithya and Sanjay o BBA 1st year on the topic unconscious bias: breaking stereotypes.

 


There was another event organized in the noon, a flash mob performed by the col relating how would the society react if a girl child is born. It was and exceptional performance given by the students with an amazing message to the society to save a girl child. There were banners and wordings at the end to bring awareness to the society.

 

 

It was an overall an enthusiast event with all the students actively participating. We would want to thank the cultural club for hosting the event. The celebration came to an end with the vote of thanks and requesting the judges to share their views on the views about the event. We expressed our gratitude to the principal and the faculty for the support without whom the event wouldn’t have been successful.
