Seminar on Self-Defence Techniques for DSBA Girls

On 4th October’16, a seminar on self-defence techniques was conducted by Mr Nanda Kumar R and his protégé -Mr Anil [I year DSBA- BCom Student] for the girls at DSBA.

Mr Nanda Kumar had come to DSBA in the year 2015 and had conducted a seminar on self-defence for the girls. The positive feedback and response given by the girls then was instrumental in inviting him again this year!

Mr Anil handed a bouquet and welcomed him.

Mr Nanda Kumar R is a professional full time Taekwondo instructor, national referee, national coach and an international player. He is a National Gold Medallist and has participated in three international Taekwondo matches and won gold in two international matches.

Mr Nanda Kumar said that learning martial arts is one of the smartest things one can do. Knowing certain special techniques will help fight off attackers. There are different forms of martial arts the girls can choose from. What one chooses isn’t that important but what’s important is enrolling in any type of martial arts class and learning the art of self-defence. Any age or health level can benefit from these courses. A self-defence course encompasses information and training on a specific type of combat, and taking a self-defence course has advantages as it develops emotional, physical, and mental well-being in a student. Some of the values that martial arts teaches include integrity, humility, honour, respect, courage, self-control, self-confidence, self-discipline and significance of failure.

With the help of his protegee, Mr Anil -an able Taekwondo player himself, Mr Kumar demonstrated various simple self- defense moves and encouraged girls to come forward and learn them all.

Students came forward to learn the art of self -défense and complimented Mr Nanda Kumar and Anil for teaching them the basics of self defense and inspiring them to take up self-defence classes. This would not only empower them but might come in handy someday.
