Faculty Development Program on Research Design and Statistical Analysis using SPSS

DSBA organized a two - day Faculty Development Programme (FDP) on ‘Research Design and Statistical Analysis Using SPSS’. The FDP was conducted by professional experts on 29th&30thJune’17 in the Campus. Participants varying from research scholars to academicians and industry experts from reputed institutions like Dayananda Sagar Junior Business School, T-john Group of Institutions, Dayananda Sagar Academy of Technology and Management, Dayananda Sagar College of Engineering, Oxford College and PSG institute attended the two-day event.

Dr(Brig)Sandes, Principal- DSBA; Dr. Veena K N, Dean- DSBA and Prof. Nikita Sreekantha Head of Department,UG programs welcomed Dr. Deepak R, Associate Professor, Department of Management Studies, DSCE the resource person for the day.

Dr. Deepak graduated with honours in MBA at Marshall University, WV, USA and did PhD from Manipal University. He has a Diploma in Management Information Systems from NIIT and he also acquired Six Sigma Green Belt. He has more than twenty research papers in referred journals and many papers in National and International conferences in his credits. He has conducted many workshops like “Applications of Excel, SPSS”, “Stock Market Simulation”, Writing Research papers in the areas of finance”, Balance Sheet Analysis”, etc at various institutions.  

The other resource person for the FDP was Dr. Veena K N. A post graduate in Statistics form Mysore University [4th rank] and a post graduate in Total Quality Management form Sikkim Manipal University, she has a PhD in Business Administration from Mysore University. She has 19 years of academic experience teaching various programs from PU to PG programs. She has been a resource person for Faculty Development programs, Management Development programs, Workshops and consultant for organisations in the area of Statistics and Management. She has presented more than 20 papers at National and International conferences and published papers in reputed journals in addition to chairing sessions in Conferences, including some at reputed Institutions like, IIM-K.

Prof. Meera Seshanna, Assistant Professor, DSBA welcomed the gathering and briefed the participants about the FDP. Both the resource persons spoke on elements of ‘Good Research’ and importance of research methods and statistics in the field of research.

The FDP focused on skill development for Data Management by using statistical software packages like IBM SPSS. The training modules were specifically designed to provide comprehensive information about research methods, developing research proposals, hypothesis testing and data mining by using regression analysis. The programme emphasized on hands-on training in the SPSS lab. The tools and techniques pertaining to ANOVA, Chi-square tests, Regression analysis and Factor Analysis were covered in depth with exercises and assignment to make the session interactive.

The two-day FDP came to an end with a formal valedictory session by Dr. Mudita Sinha, Assistant Professor, DSBA. Dr. Sandes addressed the participants about the importance of research in teaching career and appreciated the efforts of Prof. Nikita in organizing such a research workshop. He along with Dr. Veena distributed certificates to the participants. Dr. Mudita Sinha proposed a vote of thanks to all the participants for their inputs and experience-sharing at the end of the programme.
