Dr Veena K N - Dean, DSBA welcomed Dr Sumithra Devi and introduced her to the faculty and administrative staff in the presence of Dr [Brig] Sandes –Principal DSBA and Prof Nikitha Sreekantha-HOD, DSBA. Dr Sandes presented her with bouquet.

Dr Sumithra Devi began by stating that attaining academic quality is a never ending process. She suggested that in the institution academic monitoring should be done at the end of the academic year internally by a committee which is headed by the principal. Committee should monitor question papers, evaluation quality and student performances. Academic audit is done by an external source-an outsider who is knowledgeable about the program and able to guide whether the academic process in the institution is headed in the right direction.

Collecting feedback from the stake holders is imperative .Faculty of the institution are the internal stakeholders .A feedback form can be used for collecting the feedback from the faculty regarding the curriculum; likewise students, parents, alumni and other external stakeholders can provide feedback about the same. It is necessary to find the gap in the curriculum prescribed by the university.

She recommended that the faculty identify the gap in the syllabus, take action and it’s required that the head of the institution inform the university about the action taken after the gap analysis was done. She also gave examples of the gap analysis done in her institution and the action taken for the same. Seminars / lectures can be conducted related to the courses every semester and that also ensures learning gaps are filled. Innovative pedagogical tools in teaching methods are to be adopted by the faculty to improve the quality in teaching. Monitoring internally helps in proposing changes if necessary. Though the institutions are bound by the syllabus prescribed by the university; yet the institution can think in a different unique way to improve the academic quality for the students.

Dr Veena had a few queries regarding academic audit which was adeptly explained by Dr Sumithra Devi. She ended her session by advising the faculty not to be confined to the rigidity of teaching but bring in changes as a character of a teacher is to mould the needs of the students.

A round of tea followed; Dr Veena proposed a vote of thanks and Prof Nikitha presented a token of appreciation to Dr Sumithra Devi at the conclusion of the workshop.
