Inaugural Program for First Semester UG Students

The institution welcomed students from Batch 2019-2022 on 8th July 2019 at 10 am at IV Floor A block. The function was presided by Dr B R Lakshmikantha, Principal-Dayananda Sagar Academy of Technology and Management. The program was coordinated by Prof Nikitha Sreekantha-HOD, UG Programs.

After the registration formalities, the parents /guardians as well as the freshmen from the three programs-BCom, BBA and BCA were ushered in at the venue by the second-year student volunteers. Dr [Brig] Sandes, Principal; Dr Veena K N, Dean; Prof Nikitha Sreekantha, HOD; Faculty, Administrative Staff and student volunteers attended the program.

 

 

The emcee, Prof Meera Krishnan welcomed each one; it was followed by a video presentation -a hallmark of DSI and an inspiration to many!

Ms Pooja D N, III Year BBA student performed an invocation dance.

 

Prof Nikitha Sreekantha welcomed Dr Lakshmi Kantha and introduced him to the parents and I semester students. Dr B R Lakshmikantha has a PhD from VTU and has a teaching experience of over 38 years and 4 years of experience in Industry /Research. He is also a member of Board of Studies at VTU.He is a great leader committed to the vision of the institute. He emphasizes on character formation and believes in imparting value-based education to develop front-line managers, best engineers, great scientists’, entrepreneurs and professionals through a concerted team effort. He was welcomed and gifted a potted plant by Ms Nischitha Yadav, II Year BBA student.

In her address, Prof Nikitha said that DSBA offers 360°learning which is suited for global challenges, and the three years’ time that students invest in their academic pursuit at the institution are the formative years of their life and hence, the environment created for them is that of holistic learning. Further, students are not expected to be bookworms. They should excel not just at academics but also at co-curricular activities and hence ample opportunities are provided to them to hone their talents. Before she concluded, she advised students not to be just ordinary but extraordinary, achieve excellence in whatever one pursues and become a star performer always!

 

 

 

Light represents God’s presence and so the divine light was welcomed by the traditional lighting of the lamp. The Chief Guest, Principal, Dean, HOD and the new students were invited to light the lamp.

Dr Lakshmikantha addressed the parents and the students. He spoke about the DSI Legacy, inspired students by taking examples from his life and narrated stories to drive home the point that students must develop good attitude, know their values of life and understand that, failures are the stepping stones of success. He further insisted that the students realize the importance of their parents and their sacrifices and the parents in turn be very supportive for the betterment of their children by coming regularly to the college and monitoring their wards.

Dr [Brig] Sandes in his address regurgitated the DSI Legacy, the details of management and expressed his expectations. He emphasized that students must have goals, adhere to the dress code of the college, be disciplined, manage their time well, abide by the traffic rules, maintain good habits and attitude and know their responsibilities. He further enlightened the parents and students with the working of the institution- the timings, programs, student clubs, co-curricular activities, examination, attendance, certifications, placements, and the value add-on courses. He ended his talk by suggesting to the students that they follow the motto “To be the job Creators, not the Job Seekers and also to be a useful citizen to the society.

To acknowledge the academic talent of some of the brimming first- and second-year students who performed exceedingly well in the academic year 2018-2019 in the BU exams held in Nov-Dec’18, certificates and medals were presented by Dr Lakshmikantha and Dr [Brig] Sandes.

Dr Veena K N was invited to speak next. She advised students to explore their latent talent and challenge themselves, become responsible and participate in activities, hone and express themselves. She also assured parents that their wards were in safe hands and the institution would help the newcomers in achieving their goals and dreams.

Dr Lakshmikantha was presented with a memento-a token of appreciation by Dr Sandes.

Prof Meera Krishnan proposed the vote of thanks and requested the audience to have a refreshment break.

 

After the inaugural function, parents and students were briefed about the nitty-gritty of the three programs-BCom, BBA & BCA by Prof Nikitha, Prof Crissy and Prof Chaitanya.
