Field Trip to Garuda Polyflex Foods Pvt. Ltd

A field trip to Garuda Polyflex Foods Pvt. Ltd was organised for the first-year students during the bridge programme. Two batches of students were taken on consecutive days.

On 18th July 2019, I Semester BCom ‘A’, BBA and BCA students were accompanied by Prof Shrithi, Prof Roopashree, Prof Shilpa and Prof Hari Krishna and on 19th July 2019, the second batch i.e. I Semester BCom ‘B’ and BCA students were accompanied by Prof Meera Seshanna, Prof Crissy Mathew, Prof Usha, Prof Lakshmi Kant and Prof Prakasha to the factory premises.

A busload of students and faculty left the college campus to the factory located at Jigani Industrial Estate, Bommasandra at 10 am. Garuda Polyflex Foods Pvt. Ltd is a joint venture between Garuda Food of Indonesia and the Polyflex Group of India and was established in the year 2011. It launched Gone Mad Choco sticks in the chocolate segment, Gone Mad Jelly Drink and Gone Mad Chocolate Drink in the beverage segment and Gone Mad Sugar Cheese Cracker in the biscuit segment. The factory unit has a manufacturing facility for wafer sticks and jelly drinks.

To begin with, the students were given an introduction about the company as well as the product range by Mr Rangaswamy-HR Manager. At GP Foods, they follow stringent quality norms to meet the ISO standards, have the best water treatment plant to achieve the best quality in their products and have an in-house testing facility for raw materials as well as for the finished products. Besides, they are committed to their CSR activities. 

After the narration, the students were guided to the factory unit and shown the entire process from manufacturing to packaging of chocolate wafers. They were briefed about the process, machinery, packaging, quality and marketing. The hygiene and cleanliness seen at the premises baffled one and all. Students interacted with the factory personnel and clarified their doubts and queries. After the visit, each one was given a sample of the product.

For the first semester students, who have just entered the threshold of the college campus, it was one of a kind learning experience!
