NSS Unit Organizes Blood Donation Drive

If you’re a blood donor, you’re a hero to someone, somewhere, who received your gracious gift of life.”

NSS unit of DSBA conducted a Blood Donation Drive on account of the 73rd Independence Day on 16th August 2019 at Room G-05. It was a daylong event. It was coordinated by Prof. Kasthuri Gopal, NSS program officer. The camp was organized in association with Lions Club and Sanjay Gandhi Institute of Trauma and Orthopaedics.

The blood donation drive was inaugurated by Dr [Brig] Sandes, Principal-DSBA in the presence of Dr Veena K N, Dean; Prof Nikitha Sreeekantha, HOD; Prof. Kasthuri Gopal; District Governor of Lions Club, Regional Chairman and Zonal Chairman of Lions Club, Doctors and staff of Sanjay Gandhi Institute of Trauma and Orthopaedics, Faculty members and NSS volunteers.

Students from the first, second and third year from all the three programs were enthusiastic about donating blood. Those who wished to donate blood were advised to drink water and hydrate themselves well before donating blood. To select the eligible donors, various tests were performed to check blood pressure, haemoglobin level, weight etc. The eligible donors were also given advice to eat lots of fruits, iron-rich foods and drink sufficient amount of fluids after donating blood.

The doctors and staff were extremely friendly and took utmost care of the blood donors. Refreshments were provided to the donors so that they could regain their lost energy soon. Lunch was also catered for the doctors, staff and volunteers by the college.

At the end of the day, Prof. Nikitha Sreekantha, HOD and Prof. Kasthuri Gopal, NSS Program Officer handed over the blood bag to the District Governor of Lions Club and doctors of Sanjay Gandhi Institute of Trauma and Orthopaedics.40 units of blood was donated to the Lions Club Blood Bank and 37 units of blood was donated to the Sanjay Gandhi Institute of Trauma and Orthopaedics.                                                     

In all, 77 blood donors participated in the NSS Blood Donation Drive and certificates were distributed to them by the respective blood banks. The District Governor of Lions Club felicitated the Principal and NSS program officer with an honorarium certificate.                               

NSS Unit and NSS Volunteers at DSBA will continue to be active & energetic for all such nation-building social activities.
