The Bespoke Show at DSBA

‘The Bespoke Show’ was organised at DSBA on October 12, 2019 between 11 am and 1 pm, at the IV floor hall, B Block. Students from final year BBA and BCA, second year BBA and BCom attended the panel discussion.

The emcee, Ms Rifha Mariame from 3rd year BCom welcomed Ms. Asha Sampath and Mr. Sid Baliga, the Panellists, Dr Veena K N, Dean; Prof Nikitha Sreekantha, HOD and DSBA students.        

Bespoke is defined as something that is “custom-made”. The Bespoke Show (TBS) is an initiative conceptualized to live up to this dictionary definition. It is neither a “me too” inspirational talk nor is it a platform to share larger than life personal stories. TBS is a forum for candid discussion on topics of interest covering conventional and non-conventional sectors; mainstream and offbeat careers; art and literature; media and entertainment; and even international affairs.

A video showing the glimpse of all TBS that were recently held and are planned for the future was shown to the audience.

Ms Mariame welcomed Ms. Asha Sampath and Mr. Sid Baliga, the hosts of the show.

Ms.Asha Sampath is the founder director of Brand horizon, a brand management and consulting based in Bangalore. She is the former managing director of Indeka ceramics limited. Ms. Asha is an independent director on the board of Toyota Financial Services India Limited and is also a part of advisory council for EFI.

Mr. Sid Baliga is an educationist by profession and an author by passion. He has published in The Times of India, The Assam Tribune (north-east highest circulated English diary) and the periodicals of the ICFAI University press. Deccan Herald quoted Mr. Sid for his expertise in International SOP and resume development. He advocates fundamental rights and has funded a campaign, title ‘Bihar ki beti’ twice on Milaap, first in 2017 for a 5-year-old child from Begusarai Bihar and second in 2019 for a victim of human trafficking from Bihar.

The discussion was on ‘Product leadership in a data driven world’; wherein, the audience heard three perspectives from three business leaders with years of expertise in product development.

Ms Rifha welcomed Mr. Ramakant Das, Director, AI solutions. NASSCOM centre of excellence, internet of things. He is an alumnus of NIT Rourkela and ISB Hyderabad, and is the former Regional director, Mindtree limited. Mr. Das has over 17 years of experience in the enterprise services and consulting industries. He has had a global consulting experience having collaborated with enterprises across the world from USA, UK, Australia, Singapore, Dubai and India region. Since the past decade and half, he has been very successful in creating and consulting new age solutions for enterprises across the data and SMAC (social, mobility, analytics, cloud), Solutions portfolio

Ms.Vidhya Veeraraghavan, Head of Analytics, Financial Market Operations, Standard Chartered Bank occupied the dais. Ms.Vidhya was formerly with Citibank. She is a certified business analytics professional having 17 years of experience in Banking and information technology operations enabling data driven decisions and solutions demonstrating strong leadership, communication and analytical skills.

Next, Mr. Linus Xavier, Head of products, data signs technologies graced the dais.

An alumnus of SP Jain, Mr Xavier was formerly vice president at Texila American University and associate director at simplilearn. Mr. Xavier has 10+ years of experience in product management, analytics and marketing. He’s worked with fortune 500 companies like Dell, Verizon, and also played a key role in the growth of start-ups such as Lendingkart.

To cater to the eco-friendly mission each event attendee was provided with a potted plant. Dr Veena welcomed Mr Ramakant Das; Prof Nikitha Sreekantha welcomed Ms Vidhya; and Prof Crissy Mathew welcomed Mr Linus Xavier.

The panel discussion began. 

The hosts led the show and the panellists gave the audience insights into the evolution of product development lifecycle and how data is influencing product decision in the present day scenario including difference in the traditional and modern product that is intangible yet there are data points and leadership, evolution of media and banking, data points and personalised customer product in banking. They also spoke on diverse range of cases spanning Ola, Zomato, Ed Tech, rise of Swiggy and the next big disruption of convenience in BFSI

Ms Asha Sampath concluded the session. 

This was followed by a question and answer segment and ten minutes were allotted for questions from the audience. As a token of appreciation, Ms. Asha handed over mementoes to the panellists- Mr. Ramakant Das, Ms.Vidhya Veeraraghavan and Mr. Linus Xavier.

Ms Rifha Mariame proposed the vote of thanks and thanked Ms Asha and Mr Sid for hosting the panel discussion at DSBA campus which immensely benefitted all the students in helping them make many future career choices.
