A session on Legal aspects of Intellectual Property Rights was conducted by Mr Arjun Bala for the faculty and the Final year students on 05 April 2019 from 10:30 am to 12 pm at G-05.

Arjun Bala is an IIT Bombay alumnus, a registered patent attorney (since 2004), a CPVA (Certified Patent Valuation Analyst), and Managing Partner of Metayage IP Strategy Consulting LLP.  At Metayage IP, Arjun has prepared and prosecuted hundreds of patent applications in India and the US. Prior to founding Metayage in 2006, Arjun headed India operations for a US patent law firm, where he was trained by leading US patent attorneys on US patent prosecution and due diligence.                                         

He started the session by enlightening the audience about the basics of IPR.He said that there are various stages involved in converting innovations to economic value which includes IP creation, IP capture, IP protection, IP management and IP commercialisation. Each of these stages are closely tied to the others and in order to get the benefits of innovation such as licensing revenue, sale of IP assets, spin offs for commercialisation, one has to execute each step of the IP Life cycle in a strategic manner.

The session was received well by the faculty and the students.
