First Year Students Break the Ice During Bridge Program

Classroom icebreakers encourage new students to have conversations, get to know each other and feel comfortable in the institution. They’re ideal to set the pace for the Bridge Program, and serve as a precursor for teamwork and collaborative learning.

Unlike the ice breaking sessions conducted so far, this one was different! It was held online in the break out rooms on the Zoom mode on 15 Sept 2020 from 1:30 pm to 4:30 pm.

Prof Meera Seshanna and Prof Meera Krishnan coordinated the session for BCom students and Prof Crissy Mathew and Prof Usha did the same for BBA and BCA students.

Ten groups of BCom students were formed while BBA and BCA students were grouped in eight. The rules of the introductory session were as follows: One member would be the team leader and he / she would ensure that the group members introduced a team member other than himself/herself. The introduction would include name, hobbies, future goals, strengths and weakness of a team member. The group would also be given a name by the members.

This activity offered a chance for the students to interact with a greater number of classmates unknown to them, talk to each other, have conversations, make connections and build camaraderie. The coordinators appreciated and encouraged the students throughout the session and this especially helped those students who were inhibited. Soon enough, students became confident and overcame their shyness.

All the students enjoyed being a part of the ice breaking session, and found it fruitful.
