Bridge Program on Virtual Mode for First year UG Students

Bridge Programme is an essential annual component since DSBAS inception!

It helps imbue the first-year students with intellectual curiosity and prepares them for assuming intelligently the responsibilities of the University academic education that they are going to embark on soon.                              

On 15 Sept 2020, at 9:30 am, on the Zoom meeting, Dr Nikitha Sreekantha, HOD, addressed the first year UG students; and stated the importance of the Bridge Programme. She spoke about the eclectic mix of the sessions incorporated in it and the way the sessions will benefit them.                            

The class coordinators – Prof Roopashree, Prof Nazeer Pasha [I Year BCom A & B Sections]; Prof Shrithi [I Year BBA] and Prof Shilpa [I Year BCA] took over the morning session for an interaction and separately addressed the first year BCom, BBA and BCA students till noon.

They gave an overview of the three programs [BCom, BBA and BCA]- the course matrix, curriculum and general instructions regarding document submission; student and parent undertaking.

They also reiterated to the students the significance of attendance and maintenance of discipline both during the online as well as the offline classes, completion of class assignments in the given time frame, seriousness in them answering the Internal exams, their active participation in co-curricular and extra-curricular activities, following the dress code and obeying the rules and regulations of the institution.

They also ensured that the students filled in details for MyDsi Portal and clarified with them if they had given the feedback of the Virtual Inaugural Program a day prior. Those who had not were expected to fill it just then and complete the requirement.   

Post lunch, Prof Meera Seshanna, Prof Meera Krishnan, Prof Crissy Mathew and Prof Usha conducted the Ice Breaking Sessions for I Year BCom, BBA & BCA students respectively.

 The schedule for the Bridge Program from 16 Sept – 22 Sept 2020 was as follows

16 September 2020

10:30-12:30 pm- Orientation on Career Edge Program/ CA-CS; Foundation Program & other Certification Programs for BBA/BCom students by Mr. Shriram Vamsi -Co founder -ProEdge, Training & Talent Management Solutions.

10:30-11:30 pm-Orientation on BCA Certification Programs for BCA students by Dr. C Nandini, Vice Principal; Prof & Head of CSE Dept, DSATM.

11:30-12:30 pm-Orientation on Corel Draw & Data Analytics for BCA students by Mr. Madhusudan, Trainer and Graphic Designer 

1:30-2 pm- Orientation on NSS by Prof Rajani D K, NSS Program Officer

 Prof Rajani told the students about NSS in general and NSS at DSBA in particular. 

She highlighted on the social issues that have been identified for volunteers, various activities that the NSS volunteers have participated in, NSS outreach programs, awareness sessions organized for both volunteers as well as the outsiders, and NSS special camps.

By the end of the session, Prof Rajani faced a deluge of questions regarding NSS enrolment and many students expressed their desire to join NSS as volunteers. 

2-3 pm- Orientation on NCC  by Prof M G Nagaraju, ANO

Prof Nagaraju started his session with the NCC Introduction, Organizational structure, DG & NCC DTE and continued with information on NCC units, NCC Group HQ, Girls Division, Role of NCC in Nation Building, Aims of NCC, NCC activities, Institutional training, Subjects, Aim of Camp Training, Special training, COC, Training Methodology, Cadets appointments and Career Prospects for NCC Cadets in Armed Forces.

He inspired students by apprising them about the laurels brought by DSBA cadets at the state, national and international levels.

The ANO further gave an introduction to Defense Services, types of Entries, how to apply, types of examinations, syllabus, other and financial benefits.

The in-depth details given in the orientation left no room for doubt in students. Many are already ready to join DSBA NCC wing.

9:30 am - 10:45 am- Soft Skills for Managers by Dr Surekha Nayak, Assistant Professor, CHRIST University

11-12:30 pm – Initiatives and Innovation by Mr. Sreekiran, Co-Founder & Director, CLAP 

2 pm -3:30 pm – Session Entrepreneur in You by Dr Veena K N, Dean -DSBA

To begin with, Dr Veena discussed the reason for choosing such a title for the session while the students came up with their thoughts on entrepreneur/entrepreneurship.

She spoke about success; who an entrepreneur is – the old /new perception; why should one become entrepreneurial? And how Innovation is a continuous process. Dr Veena’s interactive session included activites -Think and Do and Combine and Create. The students were charged up during the session doing all the challenging activities.

In the end Dr Veena apprised the students about Entrepreneurship Development Cell i³ which helps budding entrepreneurs with Mentoring, Ideation, Business Plan and Startup Support.

 3:45 pm- 4:30 pm- Orientation on Language Selection by Prof Meera Krishnan & Prof Prakasha- Language Faculty -DSBA

The language faculty interacted with students, informed them about the languages that form part of the curriculum; BU regulations about choice of languages and students who can opt for Additional English in lieu of Indian languages

11-12:30 am- Nation Building by Creating Awareness and Learning from Ethos and Traditions of Armed Forces by Major General VPS Bhakuni, VSM 

1:30 pm-3 pm- IT Skills for Managers by Prof M. Vasudevarao, Asst Prof, DSBA

 In his session, Prof Vasudeva Rao elaborated on what IT skills are, IT skills needed now and ten business skills every IT manager needs.

He introduced the Management concept, Management functions; stated examples of astute business leaders; and how to be a successful leader.

He further discussed -Why is successful leadership important by taking historical leaders as examples; defined leadership; narrated essential elements, characteristics and strategies for being a successful leader. He concluded the session by stating ways to motivate employees at workplace and how to deal with difficult employees.
