On 29th May 2021, Dayananda Sagar College of Arts, Science and Commerce in association with Humanities Council, DSI organized an expert session on Workplace Spirituality. The honoured guest Prof.Rekha M P, assistant professor at Dayananda Sagar for the past sixteen years. Workplace spirituality has been widely discussed and is practised by the employees to achieve work-life balance and increase in productivity of employees. Stress has been a part of human life. This may lead to negative consequences both mentally and physically. Workplace spirituality must is legislated by the organization to its employees for meaningful work and a happy environment. It can be classified as individual spirituality (earning a promotion) and organizational spirituality (increase economic goals). In this materialistic world, people focus on the action-oriented with economic motives ignoring the purpose of life. This was narrated through a story of a monk and tourists which illustrated with a thought that we are nothing when we are born and take nothing when we are gone. However, we can attain positive outcomes if we learn to balance the four pillars of life are body, spirituality, mind, emotions and behaviour.

The implication of spirituality at the workplace gains an opportunity for an individual to contribute to society in a meaningful way. Some of the well-renowned organisations that have embraced workplace spirituality are Wipro, TCS, Dabur and many more. The book TATAs book depicts how spiritual family values in shaping the business as a sustainable one. Jamsetji Tata, the founder of TATA was himself a trained Parsi priest who was influenced by Zoroastrian principles.

Will spirituality at the workplace become a warzone? No, it is a myth that is heard everywhere. Workplace diversity includes people from different parts and follows a different religion.  Religion is slightly different from spirituality, hence spirituality is a value-driven action and can be practised to enhance ones performance at the workplace. There is a necessity for spirituality in the educational sector, where teachers deal with the future of society.

Some of the methods to follow spirituality at the workplace are interrelating core values of employee with the company and understanding the vision of the company, accepting things positively, treat others how we would like to be treated by them, spend some time for ourselves, get to know your coworker, be mindful and many more.

The vote of thanks was composed by Prof. Dikshitha Gujarkar. The session ended with  an enligthment and  positive mindset.
