Centre for Career Progression and IQAC of Dayananda Sagar Business Academy had organized a workshop on Self Pitch – Tips and Tricks to create Audio Visual CV in association with MindParkour for the 6th-semester students of BBA, B.Com and BCA on 11th June 2021. The workshop was conducted on the Zoom platform from 10 am to 2 pm. Dr. Veena K N, Dean, DSBA started the workshop by welcoming and introducing the trainer Miss Sushma H Rao.

Miss Sushma H Rao has completed her Masters in Social Work and has an overall work experience of over ten years, primarily as an HR. She also has over three years of academic and corporate training expertise.

She started the workshop by briefing us about the Audio Visual CVs and how much it has become vital in these times. She explained the differences between CV and resume and who has to use them. Then she explained to us how logical set-up plays a key role in audio visual CVs. She suggested us to dress up formally and record the video in a place having a plain background, natural light and no disturbance, placing the device such that its camera is at our eye level. Then she spoke about knowing the job/position, organization/educational institute and about oneself well before recording the CV. She then explained to us with a lot of examples how we can use this information in our CVs to make it more effective. She stressed the importance of knowing oneself, analyzing our strengths, weaknesses, opportunities, threats (SWOT) and evaluating ourselves once at least every six months to include our progressions. She also differentiated between the two words - strengths and skills

After a short break, she categorized the content to be included in the Audio Visual CV into three divisions - Who I am?, Why I am applying? and Why should you hire me?. She explained to us in detail about the information we have to provide under each division stating a lot of examples. She clearly explained how Why I am applying? is different from Why should you hire me? between which the students get confused. She also advised us to keep our audio visual CV’s duration between one to three minutes.

She gave us a few tips to create a great first impression like meeting the deadline, smiling and having eye contact with the camera while recording.  She then talked about the information that we can include in our introduction like our achievements, strengths, short-term and long-term goals if the time permits. She also taught us how to face these questions during an interview. She gave us some do’s and don’ts for making our audio visual CV’s more effective and avoid possible mistakes. After this, the trainer answered a few questions put forward by Prof. Meera Seshanna, B.com coordinator, DSBA, on behalf of the students with which the session came to an end.
