NSS wing of Dayananda Sagar Business Academy had organized a webinar on Seed to Sapling on 19th June 2021 from 10 am to 12 pm through the Zoom application. Dr. Veena K N, Dean, faculty members and the NSS volunteers of DSBA took part in the program. NSS Program officer Prof. Rajani D K welcomed and introduced the speaker Mr. Anil Kumar. He is an environmentalist who has been planting and taking care of trees in and around his locality Somanahalli, Bangalore. He has been an inspiration to protect our environment to many children well as adults of his village.

Mr. Anil Kumar questioned us about what we knew of aforestation and gave out a simple meaning of the word. Then he spoke about its advantages and opinioned that it has to be introduced to children during their schooling. He spoke about deforestation and its adverse impact. He introduced the concept of everyday environment day and planting trees in the simplest way possible. He gave us out many ways to take forward the tree plantation drive with minimal resources efficiently. He listed out organizations like GKVK, the Forest department of Karnataka which distributes sapling for free as well as minimal cost and other NGOs with whom we can collaborate.

He demonstrated the procedure of making paper pots and sowing the seed in them which can be planted as its self when it grows into a sapling. He advised to water them about 5 ml each day as it requires minimal water. Then he gave us some tips to take care of the saplings. He stressed the advantages this would provide as there is no use of plastic and environment friendly. He also taught us how to collect seeds without any cost.

He also shared his experience of planting trees, the problems he faced, how he could overcome them and how he could reduce the cost through his learning. The webinar ended with a question and answer session where the speaker answered the questions raised by students and faculty in the best way he could.
